Itinerary
Your guide will pick you up at the agreed starting point in Koper, Slovenia - hotel, cruise terminal, bus station, train station etc. (please contact us after the booking so the appropriate arrangements can be made).
The Predjama Castle reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep down below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance into the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner - Erazem of Predjama. The legend about the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. It was this safe abode of his which helped the brave knight resist the besiegers without much difficulty for more than a year.
Postojna Cave, the queen of all caves, is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant – the proteus (olm) – up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features, as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors (more than 36 million of them in over 200 years).

The cave tour was a fun adventure. We enjoyed riding the train and walking through the different chambers and levels. The castle tour was also very interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Magnificent underground tunnel structures you will not believe!
Mia was great! Loved the caves and had the best croissant in one of the restaurants there. Train ride was fun, not claustraphobic at all.
We thought the cave and castle were amazing experiences. We were disappointed however that the excursion “hosts” did not provide any history or background during the drive.
From pick up to drop off we had a fabulous day with Koper Tours. We left the port and along the way to Postjona Cave we learned about Koper and the people who lived there. The time at the caves was incredible (be sure to dress in layers). The caves are incredible and while we were part of a larger group for this tour, we were able to learn a lot and see alot. Once we finished at the caves we went over to Predjama Castle which was breathtaking. At the castle we had the opportunity to tour the inside- many rooms to explore and the audio device was easy to use and full of great information . Many groups from our ship only saw the outside of the castle, but we were fortunate to see the inside. I highly recommend Koper Tours for small group excursions from the port of Koper! We had a great day!
The cave is amazing. Great pictures. Bring a raincoat as it’s chilly and water drips from the ceiling. Castle is interesting. I wouldn’t say our tour guide was a guide; it’s more of a driver to the two attractions. He said nothing in the car on the drive to the group, just chatted with the man up front. Nice young man but I would have liked to hear about the area during our drive.
The cave tour was fun and educational with fantastic views of geological formation half a million years in the making. The train rides in and out made the deeper recesses quite accessible and the lighting provided scenic beauty. The castle portion of the tour was amazing. This one-of-a-kind structure built into the side of a mountain cave was fantastic. Best of all, however, was our guide Ernie. He was fun to listen to, with great humor and knowledge. Highly recommend this tour!
Bus was cool and clean, tour guide was amazing. Very very easy to work with to set up our group. I will use them again for sure.
Tour guide would not let us go......too late to go up to cave. Cruise ship was only 15 minutes late to dock....we were told we'd get refunded and never did no matter who we spoke too
Koper Tours guide Matt was an excellent host for our cruise stop in Koper. From finding him as we disembarked (super easy) to the drive out to the cave and castle (good info on Slovenia history and culture), to a couple quick extra stops on the drive back because we were ahead of schedule. Thanks Matt and Koper Tours! You made our first time experience in Slovenia memorable.
