Itinerary
Your adventure begins in central Rome, where you'll meet your tour leader and board a private, air-conditioned bus. As you settle in for the scenic drive, sit back and relax—your guide and driver will handle all the details as you journey toward the ruins of Pompeii.
Arriving at Pompeii, you'll meet your expert archaeologist guide for an in-depth tour of the ancient ruins. You and your small group of 18 people maximum will explore this once-thriving Roman city, perfectly preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. You’ll walk the same streets that Romans once did in silence before the daytime crowds arrive, peeking into shops, temples, and even a brothel—each frozen in time.
After your Pompeii adventure, you’ll hop back on the bus for a scenic drive along the Amalfi Coast, widely regarded as one of the world’s most spectacular stretches of coastline, straight to Positano (tours from April through October). As a small group traveling by private mini bus, you'll save time compared to larger tour groups that need to switch to smaller vehicles to traverse the road. The views of cliffside towns, turquoise waters, and lush hillsides are beyond compare.
Explore the pastel-colored resort town perched on the cliffs that has inspired legendary writers such as Shelley, Goethe, and Steinbeck. After an introduction from your guide, with some tips on where to eat lunch and shop, you’ll have a few hours of free time to do as you please before the journey back to Rome. Please note: In the low season (November through March), most of the businesses in Positano town close, making the town rather uneventful to visit. During this time, we will visit Sorrento instead, where you'll have plenty of options for lunch and shopping.
After an unforgettable day of history, beauty, and relaxation, you’ll board for a relaxing journey back to Rome. Reflect on the stunning sights of Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, and Sorrento, all while relaxing in comfort as your guide ensures your smooth return to the city.

We had a great time on the tour! This is a great way to not only get a guided tour of Pompeii with a small group, but to see the beautiful Amalfi coast with a stop in the most beautiful little village of Positano where you are able to get free time to explore eat, shop, or swim. Our tour guide was knowledgeable gave us information on the region as we drove in our bus with AC!!!
Cosimo was a lovely, warm guide who transformed our experience in Italy!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and well spoken. It was great to learn about Positano and Pompeii. This tour was the highlight of our vacation so far.
We had a great time during our tour of Pompeii and laying on the beach in Positano during our free time. The guide Cosimo did a great job of making sure our whole group stayed together and was very informative. I would highly recommend this tour if you’re in Italy!
The day trip was exactly what it said it would be. We had a good amount of free time at the Amalfi Coast and the tour around Pompeii was informative. The van was clean and cool.
Travellers should confirm the order of the tour as it can change. Our tour was scheduled for Pompeii first but was then told its was second. Originally the time in the park should have been around 2-3 hours but we’re were there for around 1hour 10 minutes. Tour guides were fantastic but were were disappointed we had so little time in Pompeii.
Nina was my guide and she was great, so this feedback isn't about her. We were very rushed at Pompeii and didn't see the fugitives which is arguably the number one thing that people go to Pompeii to see. The air con in the van didn't really work; the fans were blowing but it wasn't cool air. There also wasn't much time in Positano. In total it was about 6.5 mi of walking if you walk down to the beach in Positano and back to the van. Pompeii was fairly flat but with uneven stones, and Positano was very hilly.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're delighted to hear that Nina made such a positive impression and that you enjoyed her guiding throughout the day. We're sorry to hear that some aspects of the experience felt rushed. As this tour covers both Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast in a single day from Rome, the itinerary is carefully planned to make the most of the time available while accounting for the significant travel distances involved. We understand that this can leave some guests wishing for more time at certain locations. We're also sorry that the air conditioning in the vehicle did not meet your expectations. We appreciate you sharing your comments, as feedback like yours helps us continue to refine and improve the experience we provide for future guests. Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback. We hope you otherwise enjoyed your day and wish you all the best for the rest of your travels in Italy. Samantha Walks & Devour Tours
Cosimo was a wonderful guide - he kept a good pace for everyone, shared a lot of interesting information, managed the group well with clear expectations for arrival, breaks, and return time. Romulo was a fantastic driver managing the curves of Sorrento and Positano with ease.
We truly enjoyed the day trip to Pompeii and Positano. The transportation was very comfortable and our driver was great on all the tight roads. Our Guide Cosimo was very knowledgeable about the area and provided details that we would have missed without him. The entire day was great!
Cosimo and his driver were good
