It has been a fantastic experience!!! My guide, Nik Wisa was always attentive and made this cooking course outstanding!!! My congratulations to the chef and all the restaurant staff. Highly recommended!!! Thanks for your attention!!!!
This was a fantastic experience in a gorgeous location. We were invited into the commercial kitchen as part of the class and had the opportunity to follow the Chef Roberto’s steps for making the perfect lomo saltado. Nicolás, our guide, gave us a tour of various markets and provided insightful historical context.
what a wonderful experience with Martha today on our Peruvian Cooking viewing the Ocean, El Mercado and Fishing Center! Martha’s years of tour experience and knowledge of the Peruvian food and History - made thus a delightful time. The restaurant, Riviera Restaurant Lounge and its chef and staff were incredible. They created a lovely work area for us to make Pisco Sour, Ceviche and Causa! A wonderful memory for my family !! Thank you for the memories !!
From history of Peruvian produce, to understanding the basis for Peruvian cuisine, experiencing a local market through the eyes of a top chef, all before the delightful cooking experience.
A really awesome tour as you get to places where you normally not go! My Guide (Martha) was really cool! I enjoyed a lot! ❤️ And now I can go back and cook Ceviche for my family too 😁
We were promptly picked up at the scheduled time. Martha, our guide, was fantastic. She possesses extensive knowledge about Lima and gastronomy. We had the opportunity to visit two markets, one in Surquillo and another in Chorillos, before heading to La Herradura for the cooking class. Exploring the markets was a lot of fun, and we got to taste some new fruits we had never tried before. The cooking class was conducted in Spanish, with Martha providing translations for us. The chefs were exceptionally kind, and their hospitality truly made the experience worthwhile. The setting for the cooking class at La Herradura offered a beautiful and unique view of the Pacific Ocean. I would have given this tour a perfect score of 5/5, but I found the title to be somewhat misleading, as the class and the markets are actually located outside of Miraflores. While La Herradura is undeniably beautiful, it's important to note that it may not be as safe as Miraflores. We did feel secure with our tour guide during the day, but considering my connections with many friends and family in Lima, I've been advised to be more vigilant in the La Herradura area.
Had a great experience with Nicolas touring the ocean front fish market, the Surquillos market and then preparing fresh ceviche and pisco sours!! Nicolas was a great tour guide and I had an amazing time and learned a lot!
We loved visiting the local markets with Nicolas and Carlos, especially trying the local fruits and seeing all the fresh fish offerings. We learned so much about Lima & Peru's history & culture that we would have missed had it not been for this tour, and the conversation was full of laughs! The food and pisco sour were delicious, and we can't wait to try our hand at recreating some of the dishes at home. The atmosphere overlooking the ocean is just perfect! The preparation of most ceviche ingredients has already been done for you, so you can expect to mix ingredients and assemble the dishes with some light prep such as slicing limes & fish. All ingredients in sauces are shared with you, although you do not prepare those yourself. This tour is an excellent way to spend several hours in Lima!
So my final day in Peru was to experience a taste of Peru with a foodie guide and take part in a Peruvian cookery course… I was picked from my hotel in Lima by the local guide Nick who was charming and fluent in English and other languages. First stop was the local food market, seeing the market via the eyes of a local foodie is a totally new experience and perspective! He explained fruit, vegetables and meat which I’d never even seen before. We tasted fresh papaya, cucumber melon, incredible passion fruit (check out the size of the passion fruit!), the freshest mango, lucuma, golden berry and even prickly pear! Next onto the fish market in the Chorillos area - wow - again Nick showed me fish I’d never seen, so fresh that live pelicans were eagerly waiting! There was also a few delightful souvenir stalls away from bustling touristy areas - this is where the locals shop… Next stop was a lovely restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean where we started our cookery lesson. Every meal starts with a drink and this was no exception as I was taught to make the famous Pisco Sour. WOW Next on the menu was Causa Limeña de Pollo (a chicken filled layered potato dish) - totally delicious. Finally my favourite, the equally famous ceviche - so simple yet so tasty it’s a recipe you can adapt again and again…. Then we sat down with our two course meal and Pisco Sour to the views of the Pacific Ocean and enjoyed a relaxing two course lunch with Nick the perfect host with a great chatty personality… Finally I was driven back to my hotel but en route, Nick used his expert knowledge of the area to make further suggestions of places I should visit whilst in Lima. So all in all a wonderful combination of foodie shopping, cooking, drink making and eating in a beautiful setting made this a great course and experience that I’d recommend to anyone….
