Paella and Burnt Basque Cheesecake Cooking Class (in Bilbao)

Description
Join us in our cooking school in the heart of Bilbao and learn how to prepare authentic Spanish paella and the famous Burnt Basque Cheesecake. You'll make the starters, help create different styles of paella, and bake the cheesecake yourself, guided step-by-step by a local chef. We keep our groups small (maximum 12 guests) to ensure plenty of personal attention, questions, and real learning. Whether you're an experienced cook or a complete beginner, you'll leave with practical skills and recipes you can recreate at home. Located just across the river from the Guggenheim Museum, our cooking school is easy to reach from anywhere in Bilbao. At the end of the class, you'll sit down together in our private dining room to enjoy everything you've prepared, accompanied by three glasses of local wine or non-alcoholic alternatives. A fun, authentic, and delicious way to experience Basque and Spanish gastronomy.

Wow very personal and informational Mikel was a pleasure to cook with and learn from
This experience was had by wife and I on our honeymoon in Spain. Mikel was lovely! His amiable disposition was immediately apparent, as was his passion for food and cooking. He started out by greeting us and telling us about the next couple of hours. He showed us around the restaurant and the store, explaining how it worked- and then we went straight into tasting some Txakoli! He described the dishes we would be preparing, and got us aproned up and ready to cook it together. He was very knowledgeable about any questions that we had in regards to Spanish food culture in general. He does like food so if you have special dishes where you come from be prepared to tell him about it. We would recommend anyone who wants to learn how to cook Spanish dishes to try it here. We will be making paella and cheesecake for our friends when we return home (sin chorizo jaja).
You learn about food, cooking, and local culture. Then you get to eat what you made. Miquel was super knowledgeable and engaged us individually in the process.
This cooking class was the highlight of our trip! Mikel, the chef, is charismatic and absolutely passionate about cooking! He shared his expert cooking techniques with us as well as his knowledge of Basque recipes. We enjoyed every moment. The paellas we made were absolutely delicious as well as the aïoli and Basque cheesecake! we also tasted some delicious Spanish wines. Thank you, Mikel, for sharing your wonderful stories and love of cooking with us. We look forward to returning again.
The cooking class was amazing. Mikal makes it fun and it was the best paella I have had in Spain!
A great experience. Mikel is a fantastic teacher and his passion for the food is evident and infectious. I cook a lot and I still learned so much from him. The class was small so it was easy to cook together, the Basque cheesecake and the two different paellas (seafood and a chicken/rabbit paella). At the end, we sat down and enjoyed the finished products--fantastic. So worth every euro!
Excellent teaching and conversation. Wonderful food. Great wine. Will be remembered for years as a very good experiencel
Mikel helpfully guided our group through making not one but two delicious paellas, chorizo, peppers, sangria, and a dessert. We ate great, had local wines, and heard lots of stories about the basque region and his experiences as a chef. The class was around 4 hours, so plan accordingly. The venue was clean, nice, and a cute shop with wines, small gifts, and pinxtos. We would repeat any time! I just
Mikel was really friendly, had full command of his art and knew very well how to pass on important tips for making a good paella and sangria.
In 10 days of travel in Spain, this was far and away the best activity we chose. Chef Mikel is passionate about his work and conveys his love of regional foods to his students, and really knows his stuff! The kitchen is clean and beautiful, and everything is well organized. We came away well-fed, with knowledge (and recipes!) of local foods, wines, and customs, and now possess skills and memories that will last a lifetime. We highly recommend this class and Chef Mikel in particular.
