Itinerary
We nearly always stop for a drink at this famous well hidden away pub called the Turf Tavern. It was long ago located just outside the medieval city walls and thus it was the site for gambling! This pub is where 'Hagrid' actor from Harry Potter films, used to drink, when filming the Goblet of Fire next door.

Without this proof of age, pubs can oblige you to leave their premises

- Entrance to colleges is NOT generally included on this tour, as the colleges close at 5pm. However, you will see many of the historic colleges and city sights during the tour
- PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME:
- INFO FOR DRIVERS AND PARKING:
- If you are driving, then please allow extra 30-60 minutes over whatever time you think it will take you to get here. Oxford is NOT car friendly and it is congested roads and hard to find parking spaces....unless you park at the sign posted 'park and rides' on edge of town on any major road into the city and hop on their buses into city centre. The park and ride buses leave every 15 or every 30 minutes and take anything from 10 min to 30 min (depending on traffic) to reach city centre. So if you are going to drive, then please assume you should be aiming to park your car about one hour before your tour starts.
- PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
- We actually recommend instead using the much faster and reliable train services but again please aim to arrive about an hour or earlier before your tour starts as trains can be delayed and the train and coach station are about 15 minutes walk from our meeting point. There is also the coach service from London called the Oxford Tube which leaves every half hour or more but it can take much longer than its advertised 105 minute journey time. It drops you off either at High street Oxford or Gloucester Green coach station. It's quicker to ask to get off on High street near Carfax tower, then it's a 10 minutes walk to Broad street.

Peter our tour guide was very informative and friendly. We learned so many interesting facts about Oxford and visited some very cool pubs.
Hi Terri, Thanks for your recommendation.
Our guided tour was very fun! Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly! He made sure to link the tour to our interests.
Thanks for recommending your tour with me.
Peter was an excellent guide for this tour, full of informative stories and a wealth of historical information. The tour had the potential to be awkward as I was the only one on it, but Peter was an excellent companion and I thoroughly enjoyed the pub visits and will take advantage of some of his food and sightseeing recommendations.
Hi Carol, Thanks for recommending your Oxford pub tour experience last night led by Peter. I hope you didn't have too ghostly a time in our haunted city? Sincerely, Alasdair
We had a great pub tour with Alisdair! It was a perfect mix of city history and sites and stops at some of the historic pubs around town. Alisdair is very knowledgable and has great stories to tell. It was a great introduction to Oxford!
Peter was an excellent guide for my husband, friend and myself as we explored Oxford our first night in town. We had a couple of pints throughout the tour and got a mix of history including the university, literary figures, and even a touch of Harry Potter. Peter was very knowledgeable and gave a great overview of the city, including many tips and tricks for the remainder of our stay. Would happily join one of this company's tours again!
Hi Sarah, That's great to hear that you had a fun Oxford pub tour with Peter guiding. Thanks for choosing our tour! Sincerely, Alasdair
We did the pub tour with Alasdair. He is very knowledgeable and has told great stories about the city, students and colleges. The pubs were individually adapted to our tour as we had already visited some. This tour has enhanced the visit to Oxford. A must to get to know the nightlife and people better. Many greetings Michael
Hi Michael, Vielen dank. Thanks for recommending your Oxford pub tour with me. Yes, there is not a great deal of night time tour experiences to choose from in Oxford so it's really either spending time with ghosts of with beers on our Oxford pub tour! Sincerely, Alasdair
Tour organised for a group of European colleagues visiting Oxford for the first time. Alasdair our guide was excellent in his knowledge & delivery & set exactly the right level between the sights & the pubs. The feedback from every member of our group was excellent with everyone enjoying the whole evening.
Hi Andy, Thanks for kindly leaving such a great review. I would actually have liked to tell you all lots more stories, when we were sitting in the pubs but as pubs can get quite crowded, it's not always possible to all sit together. Anyway though, I hope everyone was not too hungry by the time you started dinner afterwards. Thanks again for choosing to book our Oxford pub tour for your corporate staff activity. Sincerely, Alasdair
I had arranged this tour for my family from the US. Having no expectations, we came away from this fun and informative tour with the sense of having been treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our guide happened to be the owner of the company and had to track us down at our hotel because we had not arrived at the decided location on time. He very kindly picked us up and off we went to walk in the footsteps of history...via the local pubs! Don't miss this tour if you plan to spend a night in Oxford. We met new and interesting people by sharing a table in one of the pubs and the conversation and education were entertaining and memorable. The tour (because of the season) was a private one and we felt extremely lucky to have experienced it all.

The tour guide, Peter, was excellent. He is a native of Oxford and very knowledgeable.

This was a super tour for us. This tour costs more than the other pub tours on offer but it was worth it. The tour is configured for no more than six people unlike other pub tours and we were lucky as for us it turned out to be a private tour. Also, we were pleasantly surprised, although the description does not indicate this, our guide picked up the drinks tab so I got to taste test three different ciders as my wife tried three different ales.

Because it was graduation night, the pubs often attended by students were very busy -- so the guide chose a couple of 'town-locals'. When we encountered too much of a crowd at the third pub, our guide revised things and we went to the Oxford Union club -- since our guide is a masters student at Oxford. That got us into an entirely different environment and we quietly sipped our drinks the cider at the club is NOT as nice as the ciders at pubs though -- it isn't their forte, and chatted for quite a while about Oxford, our travels, his travels and things in general.

A very genial evening indeed.

At the end, our guide walked us back to our AirBNB apartment which was rather a nice touch.
