Your Northern Lights adventure begins the moment our experienced guide collects you from your chosen pickup spot in Reykjavík, driving a specially equipped 4×4 super jeep designed for the journey ahead. Once everyone is aboard, we’ll leave the glow of the city behind and venture into the vast, quiet darkness of Iceland’s countryside. As we search the skies for the Aurora Borealis, the route may take us past some of the country’s breathtaking natural landmarks—hidden in shadow but revealed by your guide’s keen eye and knowledge. By traveling along less-traveled rural roads, we escape the crowds and enjoy a better chance of witnessing the Northern Lights in all their brilliance, along with the serene beauty of Iceland’s night sky.
When the conditions look right, your guide will choose the perfect viewing spot based on the evening’s weather forecasts. Then, it’s time to settle in and wait for nature’s show to unfold. The Northern Lights usually dance about 100 kilometers (60 miles) above the Earth’s surface—an otherworldly display born near the north magnetic pole. Watching ribbons of color sweep across the sky feels almost unearthly, as if the cosmos itself were painting over the night. Be sure to dress warmly, as the Icelandic night air can be brisk. A fleece sweater or one of our cozy blankets will help keep the chill away while you wait. To make the moment even more comforting, we’ll serve you a steaming cup of cocoa paired with a sweet chocolate bite. And when the aurora appears, you won’t just see it—you’ll have the memory captured forever. Our guides take photographs each time the Northern Lights reveal themselves, ensuring you’ll go home with your very own picture under the glowing sky.
We will end the adventure with a drop off in Reykjavík from your original pick up location. Kindly note that the Northern Lights are natural phenomena that are difficult to predict, but our guides do everything in their power to ensure the best chances of seeing them.

- Remember, you’re responsible for updating your pick-up location at least 48 hours before your tour. - Pick up times for Magical Auroras is as follows: 25th Aug - 14th Sept: 21:30 (9:30pm) 15th Sept - 14th Mar: 20:30 (8:30pm) 15th Mar - 15th Apr: 21:30 (9:30pm) You’ll find the actual pickup time in the booking process and on your final voucher. Pick up may take up to 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions and your location. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

- Suitable for all physical fitness levels
- Small group experience limited to maximum 16 participants per guide
- A moderate amount of walking is involved, good hiking shoes are highly recommended.
- Warm outdoor clothing is essential, also waterproof clothing, hat and gloves.
- This tour is weather dependent and, as such, is liable to last-minute cancellations (up until 6:15pm on the day)
- If you do not see the northern lights, or if your tour is cancelled due to bad weather, you may rebook for another evening free of charge on a minibus tour (subject to availability). Contact the local supplier in order to rebook. Contact details are mentioned on your voucher.

This was a great. Our guide (H) really made the experience. He was adept at handling the vehicle confidently off-road through the snow, was passionate and knowledgeable about the science of northern lights, took great photos of the group and even told funny jokes. We saw an amazing show of northern lights and would definitely recommend.

The super jeep experience is totally worth it. The tour guide Mr H was great and very knowledgeable of the best spots and timing. He took us high on the mountains where there was a cloud opening and got some of the best lights of the season even when cloud coverage was very bad and snowy. During the same week we had booked a small tour with a different company on a small bus and it didn’t had the versatility that this tour had.

Tour guide was creative and honest about conditions. He found a spot for us to see lights even w bad conditions. Courteous and funny. Highly recommend
We were cancelled the original night due to weather, which happens, so booked on the following night, timings was advised to be at pick up 15 minutes early, the arrival was within this but you MUST be early. We were taken out the city and were told to be patient, it does not just happen and knew it was not guaranteed, went to a couple of different spots, but the driver felt where we stopped finally we had a high chance, he served Hot chocolate, biscuits and Vodka if you wanted it whilst we waited, we saw the Northern lights, had plenty of time to explore and watch and was never rushed, had some pictures taken which we had to look online to obtain but these were free also. The guide explained everything, advised it was not guaranteed, was patient and gave us some explanations on what we were looking for. Very succesful and enjoyable evening.

This is a great tour. Hjortur is a pro, he knows how to find the lights if the are happening. I would highly recommend. Plus, it's a cool ride.

I did this tour 2 nights in a row. First the day I landed (27/1/26) with tour guide ‘Buck’. He was brilliant. It was a very cloudy night, so he went off roading to try and find us some lights. This is why I booked this tour, over the big bus. We were lucky that we saw the lights, but it wasn’t the dancing experience I was hoping for. That’s why I booked another tour. I was given 10% off from the company due to being a returner. The next night I was with tour guide Klemmi. Klemmi was lovely and very informative. We saw the lights within a few minutes. He then drove us to a spot to wait. Around 23:10, Aurora chose to dance. It was incredible!!. Seeing the lights dance was something I dreamed off! Thank you to both guides. They were both great in their own ways.
