Please note The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and unpredictable, so remember to bring patience and optimism with you. Itinerary

Pass by

The ship sets sails from Reykjavík’s Old Harbour and during your journey, you’ll sail among the small islands in the Faxaflói Bay, as well as along the coast of Reykjavík, providing you with a fantastic view of the city as you search for the wildlife in the water. The most common sights are minke and humpback whales, dolphins, and porpoises. However, there is always a chance to spot a few orcas (also known as killer whales) as well as a wealth of other species. The professional team onboard is very experienced in spotting whales and is dedicated to making sure their passengers leave with a smile!

Pass by

Faxafloi bay is situated on its southern shore. From Reykjavik it is possible to see the peninsula of Akranes in the northeast and even the Snæfellsjökull at a distance of about 120 km (75 mi). This bay has few islands and the ones it does have are close to land, in particular contrast to the bay directly north of it, Breiðafjörður, which has the most islands of any bay in Iceland.

Pass by

Reykjavik, on the coast of Iceland, is a unique and colorful city that will make you want to take a picture in the evening.

Bucket list activity

Had a very enjoyable experience on the boat trip. Boat was modern with plenty of space for everyone. We had a nice clear night and got to see a bit of activity in the sky. Admittedly it looks better on the photos than it does with the naked eye but it's definitely something ticked off the bucket list and would recommend.

I think it's the best of the Aurora Boat Tours.

My wife and I went on another boat tour the day before this boat. The tour gave us the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. But I felt the ship was small relative to the number of participants. That means there are few places to move freely. So we went on this boat tour the next day. It's important that this boat has a maximum of 75 people! As a result we got great satisfaction compared to the boat the day before! The Northern Lights were amazing, not only were the activities well planned so you got an experience of everything. But the ship on this tour was elegant, it had freedom of movement, it had helpful guidance and explanations, and we passengers were very happy. It was a good experience for me to compare two different boat tours in one trip to Iceland. It is important to note that the staff are kind and the number of participants is appropriate and the tour is free to move around the ship. This tour is the best I know.

Not boat advertised

Although it would have made no difference to the outcome of seeing the Northern Lights it is worth mentioning that the boat (Harpa) we went on was not the boat advertised in the booking pictures, It was significantly smaller and as a result the ‘observation deck’ was minimal in size.

Lovely boat, great crew, great lights!

We had a lovely time on the boat tour. It's not a huge boat so the experience felt intimate. Our guide gave us an overview of how the Northern Lights occur as well as pointed out some constellations. We didn't see the lights our first night, but rebooking for the next night was absolutely painless!
