Itinerary
Your private tour guide will pick you up at your hotel in Füssen and surroundings and drive to Hohenschwangau village. then we take the shuttle bus to Marienbrücke, a 19th-century crossing that overlooks the Pöllat Gorge. Gaze down at Neuschwanstein Castle with its elaborate turrets and parapets, and then pose for photos set against the backdrop of the heart-stopping Tegelberg mountain. Then, head inside Neuschwanstein Castle for your walking tour, and learn how it was built for King Ludwig II in the 19th century. While the Romanesque Revival castle was intended as Ludwig’s retreat, the building was never completed and the king spent less than half a year living inside it. Admire the stately interiors, including murals that pay homage to compose Richard Wagner – Ludwig’s operatic idol – inside the Minstrel’s Hall. Explore rooms like Ludwig’s bedroom and admire the dazzling ornamentation of the Byzantine Throne Room.
We leave Hohenschwangau for a short ride to the famous Wieskirche (Church in the Meadow) for a visit to the stunning rococo interior. It is the only monument in the region on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
then travel to Linderhof Castle – another of Ludwig’s former homes. Nestled deep in the forest, Linderhof was the castle where the eccentric king spent most of his time. Step inside to see its lavish rooms such as the Hall of Mirrors and the Audience Chamber, and then visit the outside Venus Grotto – an artificial cave said to be modeled on Capri’s Blue Grotto (at the moment the Grotto is closed for maintenance works until further notice).
travel onward to the village of Oberammergau, where the famous Passion Play is held once every 10 years. Explore the village, admiring its pretty Lüftlmalerei (painted houses). Afterwards you are returned back to your hotel.

My husband and I went on the Castle tour through Bravia and Austria which exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide Matej was knowledgeable and always knew the best spots to be in to get the perfect picture. He guided us to every castle, museum and restaurants and made us feel very comfortable. The food was amazing, the sights of the towns, castles and Alps were breathtaking. We went to Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Hohenschwangau, and Herrenchiemsee Castles which were awesome. It has been my bucket list for many years to do a castle tour in Germany, and this tour was exactly what I was looking for. Astrid put together a great tour and was very warm and welcoming. I would highly recommend European Castle Tours and look forward to taking one of the other tours they offer.
Amazing Experience with Bruce as our guide! This tour was special because Bruce shared so many facts and lore about each location and family. He even fact checked a Castle tour guide to ensure we received the right information. He took many pictures of us so we didn’t have to take selfies. He was very knowledgeable and I highly recommend him as a guide.
Julia did an outstanding job. She was very pleasant, knowledgeable and communicated that knowledge effectively. Every need we had was handled with grace and professionalism.
Mattis gave us an amazing tour! The pace was perfect and the EQ of the guide was great! Thoroughly recommended.
This tour, organized by Astrid and delivered by our tour guide Paul, was the highlight of our 2 week holiday in Germany. It was well organized and totally exceeded our expectations. Our lunch stop delivered delicious food very efficiently as well. Highly recommend!
Sandro was knowledge about not only the castles but history and points of interest in the entire area. Plus he was fun. We had a relaxing day while Sandro made us feel comfortable.
We had an excellent time, super comfortable van, our guide was 1st class , knowledgeable, helpfull and good fun. We learnt a lot.
Truly so grateful to Astrid (and Tim and Cindy who allowed me to crash) for setting this up for me. Mattis was a perfect guide and we had the most amazing day touring the castles, church and Bavarian towns we got to see. The history of Ludwig II is fascinating and I felt like Mattis’s insights were a beautiful addition to the tours of the castles themselves. It was a perfect day that I’ll remember for a lifetime and I’m so glad I got to experience it!
What a wonderful experience! Our guide was very informative and helpful throughout the whole day. Would do it again
This tour seemed costly at first, however, the peace of mind of having a guide and the tickets taken care of was well worth the price! Matthew helped make our time in Fussen so enjoyable! He was easy to communicate with prior to our tour and during the tour. He was very informative and well spoken. His van accommodated the 5 of us comfortably. You can tell that he loves his town and knows so much about it! I would highly recommend this tour and if you can request Matthew you won't be disappointed! Thank you again!
