Itinerary

45 min

Perast is one of the most beautiful Baroque towns in Montenegro. As a former sailor center it still shines with marvelous buildings, pretty churches and a romantic waterfront. Perast has a long history, which is dating back to the 13th century. As the center for boaters, captains and sailors, the small town grew steadily and gained wealth at the 16th century. During a walk through the old town you can still admire many splendid villas and marvelous buildings, which have already been well restored. Inside the old town along the narrow streets you will find around 16 different churches. Probably the most famous church in Perast and one of the main attractions is the Church of St Nicholas. With a 55-meter-high bell tower, it is the highest building in all of the Bay. In the old town guests can visit Bujovic Palace. This architectural masterpiece is located directly at the sea promenade and it is the only palace in town, that can be visited from inside.

Admission not included30 min

After free time in Perast we will visit island Our Lady of the Rocks with the church built in 17th century. The only man-made island on the Adriatic, The island made by scuttling old ships and depositing stones around a small crag. The church houses a venerable 15th century icon of Virgin Mary, now know as Our Lady of the Rocks, and an altar made of Carrara marble is a work of Genovese sculptor Antonio Capelano. Because the church was so important to the area, the interior was richly decorated with many art gifts through time. Behind the church there is a small museum dedicated to history of Perast. The courtyard in front is known as “Place of Reconciliation.” Today the small island church acts as a sort of cultural center of Catholics of Boka.

Montenegro is beautiful. ...

Montenegro is beautiful. Nice balance of walking and boating and bus. We did have 4 hours of free shopping or roaming about in Kotor and could have fit in other activities like snorkeling. Lots of beautiful pictures.

Long day with stunning scenery.

We were told that the scenery in Montenegro is even better than in Cavtat. And we'ed have to agree. This is a long day and unfortunately we also got stuck on the very first day of the new EU entry system on the way back. A 2 hour delay, I'd expect this to get short with practice. Perast is the first proper stop. We didn't bother with the island visit. Instead just walked the length of the village water side. It is so pretty. Kotor is also amazing and very popular. No cruise ships were in our day so the streets were relatively empty for the 30 minute guided tour. That is well worth it. After that there was 2 and a half hours free. Wandered around using the free map and had a lovely lunch. You really have to do this tour just to see it all.

An interesting but over long day

The day was interesting in terms of having a taste of what Montenegro is like but it felt like too much was crammed into one day. It would have been nice to spend longer in Perast and make the trip to the church on the island optional. Kotor was interesting up to a point but the ubiquitous souvenir shops selling expensive tat were disappointing. Eating at the restaurants was also expensive resulting in Kotor feeling like an over commercialised tourist trap.

Nice day trip

Nice day trip. The guide is very informative and articulate. Really beautiful scenery. Border inspection may take time. We were lucky and crossing the border went fairly quickly.

Fabulous day, even though it didn't start well.

Had a total nightmare arranging our pickup point in Cavtat. I was told we'd be picked up 100m from our accommodation, but when I looked at the map it was actually almost a one hour walk away. My email requests for a closer pickup point got me nowhere so I tried WhatsApp. Ivana got back to me very quickly & arranged a pickup point just 10 minutes walk away from our apartment. More confusion followed which Ivana also sorted out. The trip was fabulous, Kotor was so much more than we expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our day, which was largely due to Ivana who we owe a huge thank you.

Nice day trip, but tour operator needs to be more organised

Nice day trip from Dubrovnik. Personally preferred Montenegro over Mostar (Bosnia) as it’s a very scenic route and cruise in the bay of Kotor surrounded by mountains. The ferry trip to lady of the rocks and Kotor is worth it for the beautiful views, and cheaper to buy in combination with the tour ticket (otherwise it’s 10 euros). Sadly there was not enough time in Kotor, as you need at least half a day there to be able to explore fully and it even has its own city walls like Dubrovnik. I’m not sure why these tour operators only give you 3 hours in places like Kotor and Mostar, as you need a lot longer to do some proper sightseeing. The other downside on the trip was from the tour organiser who allowed a couple to board the bus without their passport. They were not allowed past the Montenegro border and were turned away from the tour. As a tour organiser their responsibility is to ensure all the tourists have the documents ready for the trip before boarding them.

Hellish day of travel

Communications good. We were picked up at our hotel in Cavtat at 8am and taken by private transfer to board the coach in a queue waiting for border crossing into Montenegro. We didn't reach our first stop off at Persat until 12am!! Where we were taken to the Lady of the Rock. Not worth the boat trip. Left for 40mins in 36degree heat with no shade until boat trip to Kotor which took 1hr!!. In Kotor for 3hrs sightseeing.. journey back 4hrs!!!. Border crossing a complete joke. The whole journey took 12hrs. Quite traumatising being stuck on a coach for 7hrs !!!
