We had an absolutely wonderful experience on the Monkey Tour with Local Cuisine from start to finish. The day began with being picked up right at our designated pickup location, and we were immediately welcomed with fresh fruit and bottled water for breakfast, which was a very thoughtful touch. Our tour guide, Jorge, was extremely pleasant, friendly, and knowledgeable throughout the entire day. One of the highlights of the tour was visiting a small location where our expectations were completely exceeded. We were greeted by several white-faced capuchin monkeys that seemed just as excited to see visitors as we were to see them! They climbed on us, sat on our shoulders, and created such a fun and unforgettable experience. We even got to see a mother capuchin carrying her baby on her back, which was incredibly special. There were also ducks and adorable ducklings around the area, adding even more charm to the visit. Our next stop was to a small butterfly garden that we had the opportunity to walk through, and then to a surprisingly large and very nice gift shop where we picked up several souvenirs, including delicious chocolate made by local artisans before continuing on to the next stop. We then visited an area to observe alligators, which was another great experience. In addition to seeing several alligators, we also spotted iguanas relaxing and crawling on the rocks below us. Afterward, we stopped at a small local soda for a traditional Costa Rican lunch. The meal was excellent and authentic. I chose the carne, which was served with rice, tortillas, a vegetable, salad, and a beverage. I got the lemon drink, which I would describe as similar to iced tea but with a stronger, very refreshing citrus flavor that was absolutely delicious. To finish off the day, Jorge safely dropped us back off at the place we were staying. Overall, this tour was extremely well organized, relaxing, fun, and full of memorable experiences. We highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience wildlife, local culture, and authentic Costa Rican cuisine all in one day!
The staff was amazing and we got up close and personal with the monkeys during the tour. The guides were very informative and did a great job making sure everyone had an amazing experience while also teaching us about the monkeys and their behavior. This was such a unique experience and something you really cannot find just anywhere. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking to get close to the monkeys and learn more about them in a fun and memorable way.
We really enjoyed ourselves with the money tour. Best experience while here in Costa Rica. I recommend the tour.
Tati was very sweet. The monkeys were such a treat to be able to interact with them. Crocodile bridge provided sighting of one crocodile. Lunch was delicious. Highly recommend.
totaly miss leading, what you see in the pictures is NOT at all what you experience and also it took us 3 hrs to fo and 5 hrs to come back for a merely 30 minutes of splendide time with the monkeys
I will give you an honest review. Of course, the monkeys were the best part. I mean where in Costa Rica can you interact with animals and feed them. They sometimes climbed and hopped on you and were so cute and gentle. It was such an awesome experience! However, it wasn't close to Jaco, as noted in the description, taking an hour and a half. Traffic didn't help. When you approach the house, which I read it was at someone's house, you saw a scary-looking, dilapidated house and surrounding area. It made you wonder what you were getting into. The monkeys live in the forest by the house and come after the person who lives there calls for them. Again, it was amazing seeing them. My biggest complaint is about the driver. He seemed nice at first. He drove aggressively and didn't seem to care he had passengers. He never spoke to us in the van and hardly ever. He stopped to pick up water for us but never offered it to us, which I found strange. The worst part was when he was so rude to a disabled passenger, who had problems moving because of blood clots in her legs. When she tried to sit at a table because she could easily move the chair as compared to the others, he told her that it was his table. I thought it was very mean and didn't see what the problem was. One person spoke up and said she had a hard time and that it would be easier for her to sit there. He then said "oh" and let her sit there. He just didn't seem to like us, and it might have something to do with race because his demeanor completely changed when he picked up this family. He should absolutely be removed from this tour, which is questionable and appears to be a makeshift operation to make money for the driver and owner of the property who has befriended the monkeys.
We had a blast. Our driver and guide was very nice. The monkey place was tucked away and full of life- literaly( bunnies, geese, baby dogs, chickens) and monkeys. We met a few of the monkey tribe and at one point Juanito- the male alfa kind of put his foot down on the interations. There was a days all baby white faced monkey holding on for dear life to momma. On the way back we stopped at the bridge to see crocodiles- kind of a slow day for them as there were only two( heard that the day before there were 20 around the same time) The drive started with healthy fruit breakfast and lunch was garlic fish with beet salad, rice, beans and delicious plantanes with caz juice(local, fresh, amazing). We enjoyed every minute of the tour. Would recommend 100%.
It was interesting tour. The monkeys are in the jungle/woods by someone’s house. You go down a dirt road near the tin houses and go in about 30 ft and the monkeys come to be fed. My kids liked it a lot. It’s a far drive from Jaco area. The Crocodile skywalk is ok, lots of construction so only 1 croc compared to past. The restaurant was nice for taste of roadside cafe. There was really no talking or narratives from the guides. Just sat in van for over hour with no explanation of what, where , etc. This part was strange because usually there is more interaction from guides.
A unique experience with both good and bad. It’s a 45 minute to 1 hour drive. You don’t go up into the mountains. Instead, you go to a ran down sanctuary with two areas of trees the monkeys hang out in. The company provides a bowl of peanuts and a tiny bit of watermelon that you try and feed the monkeys. They don’t climb all over you like all the pictures show. There was older and larger alpha male that would occasionally but all the rest of them were really timid. It was still a neat experience to interact with them and I’m glad my family got a chance to do that. Our tour guide was a young kid. Super nice, gentle, and happy kid. However, he didn’t really know how to be a guide as he didn’t engage in any conversation, provide details, or really inform you about your stops along the way. Glad I did it. Wouldn’t do it again.
I would not recommended this experience. You literally just go to someone’s backyard to view the monkeys. Lacks organization.
