I recently visited to see the Caravaggio exhibit (twice) and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The exhibit is curated to highlight the style Caravaggio perfected and showcases his influence, even to the current day. In addition, the other exhibitions cover a variety of genres. I especially enjoyed the special exhibit this summer on the 5th floor that showcases Charlotte artists from the local guild. The museum can be experienced in under two hours, which is a digestible amount of time for me to spend, although connoisseurs may want to linger over “Boy Bitten by a Lizard” a bit.
Great museum with many great art pieces and artifacts. If you go on Wednesday nights it’s free.
Located on two floors- the 3rd and 4 th floors. They have some beautiful artwork, sculptures, etc. Surprised that we found street parking and it took about 1 1/2 hours to complete. Gift shop is nice too.
A small museum, but worth a visit when in Charlotte Uptown. The focus is on American artists, but it has a bit of everything.
Small museum, with varied works of art, mostly American artists. The ticket is valid for two days and allows you to visit the other museum too, which is a few minutes away. 15min drive.
I could’ve happily spent all day here, and even my picky teenagers found art they loved and wanted to spend time admiring and talking about. Interesting variety of works in a wide variety of media, with well-written descriptions and context for most of the pieces. The best part of our trip to Charlotte, honestly!
The Mint Museum Uptown was packed. A lot of middle school art students were there learning about all the American artists they had on display in a variety of art forms with their art teachers. A great collection of art.
