Along the way, we'll also make a photo stop at a stunning viewpoint, allowing you to capture the breathtaking beauty of this UNESCO-listed site before heading to the monasteries.
You’ll arrive at Meteora, which means 'suspended in the air.' This area is home to six of the 24 original monasteries, UNESCO World Heritage sites built on steep rock peaks in the 14th and 15th centuries. Your first stop is Varlaam Monastery, where you’ll meet your licensed guide. They’ll take you through the monastery and explain its fascinating history. Inside, you’ll see beautiful Byzantine crosses and icons in the sanctuary, showing the deep religious history of the region. As your guide shares stories and details, you’ll learn more about the monastery’s significance. Next, you will explore the Agios Stefanos Monastery, which remains stunning despite the damage it sustained during multiple military conflicts. This beautiful monastery offers incredible views and a peaceful atmosphere as you learn about its fascinating history. Please note that the Agios Stefanos Monastery is closed on Mondays. If your tour falls on a Monday, your guide will choose another monastery to visit, depending on the opening hours, ensuring that the tour fits seamlessly into your schedule.
You will then bid your guide goodbye and have about an hour of free time to explore the area at your own pace. You can enjoy traditional Greek cuisine, shop for unique souvenirs, or simply wander through the charming streets and take in the local atmosphere.
After a day filled with stunning views and the perfect blend of nature and human artistry, we’ll take you back to the port, leaving you with unforgettable memories of this unique and inspiring experience.

Beautiful monasteries built into and on top of mountains with breathtaking views. There are a lot of stairs to climb to actually get into the monasteries from the parking lot. You really need to be able to climb stairs without stopping (not very wide to pull over to rest). We saw quite a few elderly people struggling. That said, I'm 63 and didn't have any problem. Woman must wear skirts, not just have your knees covered. They do provide wraps for you to tie around your waist at no cost.
The place is magical and amazing, but unfortunately our guide was very bad He would bring us running, seeing everything in a hurry without explaining or say things like "this monastery is just like the other" ☹️

It is just as described...and well worth the trip. No regrets...super glad we went! Absolutely recommended.
This was a wonderful experience. There were a lot of steps up to the monastery so this not for the mobility impaired. Our guide was very knowledgeable and told fascinating stories about the monastic life and culture. The views were also spectacular. Well worth the climb of you can do it.
What a beautiful place to visit!! The guide was so informative and filled with knowledge! His brother was a chef at a monastery and knew a lot about everything around us. Tons of pics taken. One of our favorite places to visit!!
Incredible history and beauty of the two monasteries we visited in “The Land of Petrified Giants” (we learned this was the terminology used to describe the area where the monasteries are located hundreds of years ago from our guide).
