Our guide was Erwin, who picked us up from our hotel on the edge of Medan. He was excellent and made the day. He drove well, was very friendly and open and we learnt much about life in Indonesia from him. The tour covered all the main sights, mosque, Hindu temple, Buddhist/Chinese folk religion temple, Tip Top restaurant, Tjong Fie’s mansion and the fusion architecture Catholic Church. Very good lunch at a good local restaurant that Erwin knew. We skipped the shopping mall. Excellent guide, excellent day. But be aware, there isn’t much else in Medan to do, strictly a one day only city.

Not as good as KL trips. Language problem. Inconsistent treatment. Asked if I wanted to photograph ... Yes ... But the driver just drove off instead. Also felt he was taking me to his mates so that I could buy things.
