Hotel Orangutan has hosted over 10,000 guests over the 10 years of operation and has experienced, qualified, and caring guides. And you can Enjoy Overnight riverside camping and rafting. We have never done a trek where our guests don't see Orangutans as we employ spotters who go out early to find their location. We take a safety-first approach to our treks and go at your required speed. We are a social enterprise and 80% of your trek fee goes to the local villagers.

A fantastic experience in the hands of two terrific guides. They looked after us superbly and cooked us some amazing food in the jungle. They found us six beautiful orangutans to observe and the river ride back to the village was hilarious!
We discovered Hotel Orangatan through a quick google search because we were in Medan and we decided to contact them randomly and we really lucked out! Since contacted them everything has been so easy and everyone so nice. They arranged a ride for us from our hotel and the next day we did the 2 day 1 night trek. Our guide was Raja and he was so knowledgeable and passionate about ethical trekking. He spoke very good English and answered all our questions thoroughly and shared so much information with us. Our cook and was Ari and he super friendly and made us very delicious food and made us feel very welcome once we got to camp. We definitely didn’t think we would be eating that much or that well on a jungle trek! We saw 6 orangutans, Thomas monkeys, macaques, birds, a turtle, a monitor lizard, and fireflies. It felt really good to see all this wildlife while being with people who really respect it and never push the boundaries. The raft out was also super fun! For not coming to Indonesia super prepared for an overnight hike, these guys made it really easy for us and knocked it out of the park! Couldn’t recommend more!! Hotel Orangutan is definitely the place to go to if you’re coming out this way!
I had such an amazing time on the trek with Andra. Andra is so passionate about his region, so knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife but also such a funny guy that will make you smile the whole time! For lunch, his mom made us a nasi goreng that was the best I ever had in the region!!! Thank you to hotel orangoutan and their lovely staff, we will come back!!

Amazing experience! Our guide Andra told us a lot about the jungle, the environment in general and everything that lives there. We saw no fewer than 6 different Orang Utans and much more! At first we only wanted to go for 1 day, but on Andra's advice we also stayed overnight. Quite exciting at first, but it's not that bad. The campsites are well cared for and the food you get is delicious. If you ever visit Sumatra, Bukit Lawang and specifically the Orang Utan hotel are highly recommended!
We did a 2 day jungle trek and it was fantastic! Our guide Andra looked after us very well, knew something about everything and made it a party. We enjoyed the beautiful trip. Very special experience to see orangutans in the wild and sleep in the jungle. Highly recommended, a limited edition tour :)
We made a fantastic 2-day trek with our children aged 10 and 11 with the guides Andrat and Olan. Andrat and Olan really made it a party for the children with beautiful jungle headdresses, games and jokes. They helped the children and us to get through difficult parts safely. It was nice how Andrat talked in good English about the jungle and its inhabitants. And it was very nice to see that they took great responsibility and also provided delicious food along the way! And then we regularly came face to face with orangutans! After a special night in the jungle we returned by raft, made of large inner tubes with a net on the inside, so that we returned to the village in just half an hour in a comfortable but spectacular way. Many thanks Andrat and Olan for this wonderful experience!
Hotel Orangutan was just as perfect for our 3 days trek. We did the trek with our 12 years old daughter and it was very special. From arranging our airport transfers and providing lodging, which was amazing, the staff was very professional, friendly and informative, nice to visit with and very helpful. We had 2 guides for us. Our main guide Monang is very experienced and very into the animal welfare, the second one (sorry forgot his name) was young as he's the new generation. but so helpful. The cook made us just excellent lunch and diner. We had to chance to see 11 orangutans. Some semi wild and some wild, male and mama with baby :-) We also saw Thomas's leaf monkeys, Macaque, Lizard... This was a bucket list since a long time. We recommend 100% the whole crew and the hotel ! Don't hesitate to ask for Monang as guide ! Yasmina, Diego & Alexa
Hotel Orangutan was absolutely perfect for our family! Outstanding service and personal attention. Andra and Ari were our guides into the Orangutan Park. Their knowledge and experience made our trekking thru the jungle an absolute dream! We got to see 5 orangutans plus the enormous male!! The elephant trekking is a must as well👍🏽👍🏽 Vyca waited for our arrival with a smile and warm greeting. I can’t say enough about the staff, they were caring, attentive and friendly. We will DEFINITELY be back!! LOVE YOU GUYS!
