The Cradle of Humankind was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 because of the area’s exceptional contribution to our understanding of the history of humanity, over 3-million years. All together, there are 15 major fossil sites in the Cradle of Humankind, of which Sterkfontein Caves is the most famous. The fossils “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot” were both discovered at the Sterkfontein Caves, as well as thousands more fossils of hominids, which are human ancestors, as well those of plants and animals. More hominid fossils have been found in the Cradle of Humankind than anywhere else on Earth. During this tour you will have access to the exhibits and get the full pictures of remarkable fossil findings.

You will never forget your visit to the Cradle of Humankind and its two visitor center – the main one packed with exciting, interactive exhibits at Maropeng Museum, and a smaller one which is the gateway to the fascinating Sterkfontein Caves and their secrets about The Maropeng Visitor Centre is an exciting, world-class exhibition, focusing on the development of humans and our ancestors over the past few million years. On arrival, you will see a massive burial mound called the Tumulus, which is your entrance to learning the secrets of our ancestry. Adventure: Tour 2500m² of exhibits with an underground boat ride. Driver from our hotel was prompt but a little too fast getting there. Guide was informative but not over enthusiastic. Museum tired but interesting. Cave were strenuous, lots of steps but fascinating...a wothwhile distraction from life in Johannesburg.
It was great, the guide was very comprehensive, the tour is very worth it, are extraordinary places that bring a lot of history.

I enjoyed my day trip to the museum and caves. The pick up was on time and the drive was safe. The guides at each site were informative and we had time to look at the exhibits. The trip was well timed to fit in with the tours at each site.

Our guide, Sabelo, arrived on time and gave us a thorough overview of the day’s proceedings. When we arrived at Sterkfontein Caves, there was no waiting time and we were on our way to explore the magnificent caves. After that, we headed to Maropeng museum where we had time to explore the exhibits both guided and non-guided. We also had a great lunch spot around the area. Everything was well-paced and we were brought back to our hotel safely. Highly recommended!

Small tour group, it was only 4 of us. The cave experience is a must. It will be better if there's enough time to grab quick lunch.
