Great tour, expertly guided by Marco. Small group of just 5 which meant more flexibility and personal attention as we navigated the vagaries of the Madeira weather. Despite (or perhaps because of) the rain and mist the levada walk was beautiful, so atmospheric. The included lunch at Santana was enormous and really tasty. After descending from the higher points we made our way to Ponta de Sao Lorenço which was stunningly beautiful and happily by then in full sunshine. We had all the seasons in one day but still had a fantastic day. Thanks to Marco for all his local knowledge and excellent driving.
Had a great time . Pick up was right on time and Carlos was an excellent guide. Incredible how he swapped from 1 language to another with ease. Itinerary was full on but lots of stops made it comfortable and the day never seemed to be rushed. Levada walk was lovely and the scenery was amazing throughout the whole trip. Lunch was delicious with a lot of choice offered , unbelievable value and great restaurant.
Definitely a great day trip with a really passionate and knowledgeable guide. He gave us enough time at each stop to explore and gave us a lot of interesting information about Madeira along the way. The food at lunch was plentiful and delicious. My only thing I would change is that I would have appreciated the guide to put the child seat in one of the front seats of the mini bus, before other guests were picked up, rather than us having to sit near the back which is harder on kids in general, especially on the very winding roads of Madeira. Adults are typically able to deal with car sickness a lot easier than small children. That being said, it was still a really great day and I would definitely do it again and recommend anyone else to book!
Full day of unbelievable views of the ocean, natural pools you can swim in, waterfalls. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t allow to go on Levada walk or see the Forest, so can’t comment on these. Chose lunch option and it was a 3-course feast, plus wine!
Avoid avoid avoid! Tour was a no show! Shortly after the schedule pick up time of 9am I called the number on my booking voucher (the voucher only issued when a tour is booked and PAID for). They said they had no details of my booking! They said nothing they could do and a full refund would be given. No apology or suggestion of an alternative for that day only another day. Given we only had a long weekend and it was our last full day that was not possible. If you are refunding you have the details!!! The biggest issue was the waste of our time. At this point all other tour operators had departed for full day tours.
The write up for this experience is incorrect and misleading. It is not a small trip of 8 - there were 22 people on our day trip. Lunch is not included. The tour guide, while very knowledgeable, drops you at each point and you’re left to get on with it. The minibus had very small seats with very little legroom. I am a UK size 8 of average height and I felt cramped, many other fellow travellers were complaining too. I spent quite some time researching trips for this holiday and have used Viator many times before - this has been our first poor experience.
Dear Guest Wendy I apologise for your experience. We had a problem with our bus 8 seater, someone crashed into this bus in the morning, although our guide was not hurt the bus could not ride, and i had to send our guests to another company because they had place in their bus to avoid cancelling bookings at the last minute. When we sent our bookings and guest lists on the list you had lunch. I dont understand when the guide didnt talk about lunch, you didnt contact us. Our numbers are always available to our guests when necessary. We went out of our way to pick you up in Monte far from Funchal centre, I dont understand why you didnt ask the guide about the lunch, call us? Send an whatssap? Instead you prefer to run us down with this review. How are suppose to help you when you dont call us on the day. Sorry in this case you could have proceeded differently.
A very well organised and sucessful trip, with an excellent guide "Tony". Access to Santna was not possible as there was a Fiesta and roads closed. Timing was also good, as was the mini coach, which was in very good condition. Arranged lunch was also fine but a little rushed because of the Fiesta numbers in the restaurant.
Excellent guide Tony made our day remarkable and pleasant! Preordered lunch was very tasty . We managed to visit a lot of interesting places. Kudos to Tony!
the lunch in Santana was very good. Carlos the guide was excellent, very friendly and knowlegeable. The levada walk can be muddy, you need proper footwear. And it can be very cold at the top of Pico d'Arriero. A wonderful day out, just 7 people.
The scenery was fantastic, lunch excellent. 2 negatives however. Driver never advised us to wear seat belts and our booking said would be a small vehicle of 8 whereas one came with smaller seats for 16
