Itinerary

5 min

We will walk over Lucerne's most famous attraction. Not for nothing is the world-famous timber bridge Lucerne’s most photographed destination, it being held in high esteem by visitors and residents in equal measure. Together with the Water Tower, the bridge forms a landmark in the townscape like no other attraction.

5 min

Carved in stone, yet deceptively alive – Lucerne’s world-famous Lion Monument has been impressing visitors from near and far for very many years. The imposing stone lion, however, is more than “just” a monument. Depending on your point of view, it can be seen as a commemoration, a work of art or a memorial. And as a proud landmark of the city of Lucerne.

20 min

We will walk on top of Musegg Wall from where you can enjoy the best views over the city. Once a symbol of power, the Musegg Wall and its nine towers are part of Lucerne's historic fortifications; forming a striking crown around the Old Town, the wall can be discerned from afar. Please note that from November to March the Musegg Wall and Towers are closed and can only be visited from outside.

5 min

Opening hours permitting, we will visit the Jesuit Church from inside. Radiant in its beauty, recognisable from afar: situated next to the River Reuss, it is a treat for the eyes.

5 min

The Church of St. Mary in the heart of the Franciscan Monastery was erected between 1270 and 1280 by Franciscan monks, who occupied the site in Lucerne until 1838. The building's medieval architecture is typical of that favoured by this mendicant order of monks.

5 min

We will walk over Spreuer Bridge built in 1408. Its name comes from the word «Spreu», meaning chaff: the town's flour mills were permitted to dump their waste into the River Reuss from this bridge.

3 min

Mühlenplatz, which first emerged in the late Middle Ages following the demolition of a terrace of houses, is, at 1500 m2, Lucerne’s largest historic square.

3 min

Admire the traditional houses on Hirschenplatz square that feature fascinating ornamented facades which are under historical monument protection.

10 min

Built between 1995 and 2000, the KKL Luzern is a unique civic amenity designed by the renowned French architect Jean Nouvel.

10 min

Ufschötti Park Luzern is a popular public park and free lakeside bathing area on the shores of Lake Lucerne, known for its sandy beach and extensive grassy sunbathing areas. It offers a relaxing, vibrant spot, especially in summer, where visitors can swim, sunbathe, play games, and grill, all with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

A Perfect Rainy Day in Lucerne

This tour with Linda was very enjoyable. Linda is a wealth of knowledge and we wholeheartedly enjoyed learning about many historical aspects of the old town. Linda was also very sensitive to the needs of three seniors with mobility issues and her assistance with locating and procuring some necessities is truly appreciated.
