Luang Prabang: Kuang Si Waterfall & Rice Farm Tour

Description
Discover the soul of Laos with the Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farming Journey, a "regenerative journey" where you become an active contributor to the land. This experience sets itself apart through deep immersion into the life of a luk khao niao—a "child of sticky rice". Participate in the agricultural cycle, from using the indigenous salt-trick to select seeds to plowing with a water buffalo. Enjoy an authentic farm-to-table lunch in a local home, mastering the communal etiquette of Lao cuisine. In the afternoon, find restoration by swimming in the turquoise pools of Kuang Si Falls. The highlight is a guided trek along the "Muang-Fai," a 700-year-old communal irrigation system that serves as a living testament to indigenous wisdom and social contracts. Conclude with a rustic tractor ride and a serene Mekong sunset cruise. This is a "purposeful journey" that directly supports the communities sustaining this vibrant heritage. Book now for a connection that transcends a typical holiday.

Itinerary
Pick-up from your hotel between 8:15 and 8:45 AM. We will head to Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm.
This full-day journey begins with hands-on rice farming at the Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm. The experience offers participants the chance to select seed, help sow or transplant seedlings, learn an indigenous salt-trick for choosing healthy grains, plough a paddy behind a water buffalo, and practise transplanting or harvesting under the guidance of local farmers—real work that connects travellers to place and practice.
After threshing and winnowing, a farm-to-table lunch served in an authentic Lao house allows guests to taste sticky rice they helped prepare, hear stories of water sharing and seasonal life, and experience hospitality that returns value directly to the community.
In the afternoon, visit Kuang Si Waterfalls, where turquoise pools cascade through lush forest. You will have free time to swim and stroll around the waterfall park. (You can also visit the bear sanctuary within the park.)
You will follow a guided trek along the muang-fai irrigation channel from the top of the falls, . This engineered waterway embodies the communal governance of the land. For generations, these gravity-fed systems have been the lifeblood of the valleys, cleverly diverting water from mountain streams to nourish the terraced paddies below. Board a local farm tractor for a slow ride across the valley into the Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm on the Mekong’s bank. Back at the farm, there is time to refresh, relax, or shower before boarding a traditional long-tail boat for a serene sunset cruise.
To conclude your trip, enjoy a leisurely sunset cruise back to Luang Prang on the Mekong River as the sky turns golden and rose-colored. Watch riverside life — fishermen, children, buffalo — and return to Luang Prabang with a deeper sense of how water, work, and community sustain one another.

That's fantastic to hear! It sounds like you had a truly amazing day. It's wonderful that your guide, Von, was such a nice and professional person, and that he was always so caring. It sounds like you had a packed and memorable day, seeing elephants, a waterfall, a village, and caves!
We made a joint tour to 6 people with Dang as guide. Perfectly organized with a nice hike until noon. We arrived at a nice corner for the break with a choice of local dishes, and Dang even thought about fresh croissants. Possibility of swimming in clean water😊. Then go back down and arrive at the beginning of the waterfall and again go down where you can see it well, possibility of swimming, pictures wholesale 2hrs free to enjoy the beautiful place 🙂 back in minibus and drop off at your hotel. All at a decent price, nothing to say thank you to the team. We also did the 3 days in Nong Khiaw with them.
The experience on the rice farm is a must. It was very interesting, and also people are so nice. The waterfalls were also very beautiful.
We loved our experience as ‘rice farmers’ and the guide was excellent. In fact it has been one of the best experiences that we have taken part in. The meal provided was plentiful and delicious. We also got a chance to have a go at extracting the sugar cane juice for drinks .. a bonus. We were each given a woven animal or bird from the elderly gentlemen who were weaving the items out of bamboo. The waterfalls were just beautiful. The pick ups and drop offs went to plan and kept up to speed with the plans for the day.
Water falls are spectacular, and the living farm experience what incredible. Excellent guides where very friendly and knowledgeable
Incredible experience and a must do in my opinion to see how rice production takes place. We got to plant and harvest rice, then had a lovely lunch with an incredible view.
Excellent value for money - our host lily was fun as well as efficient and informative. We got to choose which dishes to cook which was great and how spicy - to our own taste. Took about 5 and half hours door to door. Would defiantly recommend, a great fun authentic Thai experience
Definitely a good choice for travellers who don’t have much time in Luang Prabang. The price of the tour is quite high but the tour actually combines more smaller tours and experiences and includes the lunch, so we found it reasonable at the end. It all starts on the rice farm the Living Land where the particular steps of planting and harvesting rice are shown (this part was the best!), then you get a huge and tasty lunch on the farm and continue further to the famous Khuang Si Waterfalls stopping by a place which support the local tribes. Good organisation and interesting program.
Thank you for your full day long trip and taking time to review us. I'm pleased to hear you loved our combination tour Living Land and Kuang Si waterfalls, it's also good to hear you found our prices to be reasonable. We think that the attractions like Living Land and a small Hmong village / museum we visited play more and more important role both in tourism and preservation because the modernization spreading over even Luang Prabang coutryside now. Although a tour company can do for society is small, we made this itinerary to support and promote social responsible attractions. I'm pleased that we are a bridge between tourists and them. I hope you have an enjoyable onward journey from Luang Prabang.
