Description

Step back into the French Renaissance on this comprehensive full-day exploration of the Loire Valley, the "Garden of France." Departing from the heart of Paris in a climate-controlled coach, you’ll journey to three UNESCO World Heritage-listed masterpieces. Explore the romantic Château de Chenonceau, elegantly arched over the River Cher, followed by the refined 17th-century interiors of the privately-owned Château de Cheverny—the inspiration for Tintin’s Marlinspike Hall. The grand finale is the monumental Château de Chambord, commissioned by King François I and featuring the legendary double-helix staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci. This hassle-free tour includes all entrance fees and trilingual guide assistance, allowing you to discover these royal residences at your own pace while we handle all logistics.

Itinerary

Admission included120 min

Model of the Renaissance traditions, the Chenonceau Castle is an architectural masterpiece. Known as the "Château des Dames", five women played a part to the interior decoration, making Chenonceau one of the most romantic castle in the Loire valley. The guide will introduce you to the history of the castle before your free time to stroll at your leisure through the sumptuous gardens.

Admission included45 min

Next comes Cheverny, a refined, welcoming château known for its beautifully preserved interiors and classic French elegance. It offers a different vibe—less monumental than Chambord, but wonderfully “lived-in” and polished. Cheverny is also famous in popular culture: it inspired Hergé’s Moulinsart in the Tintin comics.

Admission included90 min

Your final stop is the Loire Valley’s most majestic showpiece: Chambord, the largest and most spectacular château in the region. This is pure Renaissance grandeur—towers, terraces, and a skyline that looks like a fairytale city built on a roof. Inside, you’ll explore freely and discover the château’s most famous feature: the intricate double-helix staircase, often attributed to Leonardo da Vinci. Chambord is about scale and ambition—take your time to appreciate how monumental and visionary this place feels. It’s the perfect final chapter of the day—charming, cultured, and easy to enjoy before heading back to Paris.

Unbalanced schedule.

The excursion is certainly very interesting but also tiring and even difficult to tolerate if it is hot, especially since you are stuck in a minibus with eight seats... The castles you visit (Chenonceau, Cheverny, and Chambord) are among the most prestigious and well-maintained – at least for the most part – in the Loire. Unfortunately, the schedule is too unbalanced: Three full hours at the Château de Chenonceau compared to 45 minutes at Cheverny and barely one hour at Chambord. The driver-guide (Frédéric) was quite nice.

Operator response

Castle Experience

Challenging start to our tour. The van had a defect in the front bumper that our guide was unaware of and when we stopped for our break the bumper got stuck on curb and partially fell off. The guide tried to fix it but couldn’t so his travel office dispatched a mechanic who was able to remove it bur this all put us behind almost 2 hours. Our group opted to continue the tour and eliminate the stop at the 2nd castle. We still had 90 minutes at the first and third castles and thoroughly enjoyed both. Our guide, Gabriel was amazing! He handled the stressful situation with the van calmly and ensured we still enjoyed our tour. The tour company rebated the cost of entry in the 2nd castle although most of the participants feel a larger amount of the cost should be rebated due to the loss of time waiting for the van to be fixed.

Operator response

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re very sorry for the incident with the vehicle and the resulting delay, as well as the reduced itinerary. This is not the experience we aim to provide. We’re glad to hear that Gabriel managed the situation calmly and that you still enjoyed the castles visited. Your comments regarding compensation and time lost have been noted and will be reviewed by our team.

Worth Every Euro

I need to give credit to Viator for professionalism in doing the right thing by not canceling our tour. We were the only participants. I doubt they made money off of us. The tour itself was lovely and our guide Sergei was extremely well educated on the subject. He took care of us, and I felt extremely safe and well looked after. Do not hesitate to book this tour.

Operator response

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We are truly touched by your kind words and especially by your recognition of the professionalism shown in maintaining your tour despite the small group. Creating meaningful experiences, no matter the group size, is something we deeply care about, so your appreciation means a great deal to us. We are also delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour itself and that Sergei made such a positive impression. Knowing that you felt comfortable, secure, and enriched by the experience is exactly what we hope every traveler takes away with them. If you return to Paris, we would be thrilled to welcome you again! Thank you again for your trust and your recommendation. It was a pleasure having you with us, and we hope to see you back in France very soon for another memorable adventure.

That's a lot of castles for...

There are many castles for so little time I have no more to say, I have no more to say, I have no more to say, they are many characters to express an opinion

Operator response
