The house of Damara and Namaqua Trading Company was designed by architect Mr. Friedrich Hoft. The building was completed in 1905. The tower was named ''Damara Tower'' from where observers used to look for ships in the ocean and ox wagons in the desert. In April 1909 the Damara and Namaqua Trading Company sold all its shares to the company C. Woermann and to their shareholders and was renamed to ''Woermann Brock & Co. which is the present day name. Mr. Carl Woermann (1813-1880) was a founder of the company which also owned Woermann Line. At the time the company was run by Adolf and Eduard Woermann, sons of Carl Woermann, and their in-laws Max Brock and Arnold Amsinck. Mr. E. SCAM SCAM SCAM DO NOT BOOK This tour is a scam, the operator will not turn up as per other reviews. We stupidly gave them the benefit of the doubt and booked. Viator are now refusing to refund also, very disappointed with them also regarding this process
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are truly sorry to hear about the frustration and disappointment you faced, as this is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide. We take issues like no-shows and miscommunication very seriously. Unfortunately, it seems there was a breakdown in communication on that day, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and stress this caused you. We also regret that the situation escalated to a dispute, and we’re glad Viator was able to investigate and resolve the matter fairly. Your feedback about contacting us in advance and documenting communication is noted, and we are actively working on improving our responsiveness, confirming meeting points more clearly, and ensuring our contact numbers are always reachable to both travelers and locals. While we’re sorry we couldn’t be part of the positive outcome of your day, we’re glad to hear that you were ultimately able to enjoy Walvis Bay with another guide and end your day on a high note. Thank you again for your honest feedback. It helps us improve, and we genuinely wish you all the best in your future travels.
Frans was an excellent guide letting us know of the history of Namibia and meeting the people of Swakopmund.
Our tour was cancelled last minute and we were left with no other options for tours. Our money was taken from our account and we have not been given a refund yet.
Even though we disembarked 2 hours late from our cruise ship, Frans waited for us. He was a great guide and a great singer as well. Great day had by all.
Where to begin? Went to Walvis Bay on a cruise ship, March 9, 2024. Booked tour through Viator. Chose the option of having card charged 2 days before the tour. Got a confirmation code and booking reference number. Two days before the tour, my card was charged. Then, the day before the tour, when I went online to get my tour ticket - it was canceled. No notice, nothing. I tried to call the tour operator. No answer. Called Viator, who did get in touch with the tour operator who told them my reservation was cancelled because there were "too many people". Mind you, I made the reservation and got the confirmation WAY in advance of our ship arriving. I tired again to contact the tour provider. This time a dude on a cell phone answered, but then hung up on me. Called Viator back, which took no responsibility for the tour providers with which they contract. So we were left to get off the ship with no plans, then put something together once on the ground - which negates the whole reason for Viator and their vendors, this one in particular.
Good morning My Name is Tuyeni thank you for the Review unfortunately there was a miss connection with the agent and the bookings most off the booking were automatically Canceled due technical service we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused for your Tour Regards Tuyeni
A wonderful chance to meet the people of the Mondesa township. The children at both stops were a delight singing and dancing for us! We enjoyed the hospitality of locals who invited us into their home and fed us local dishes which were excellent! We were then entertained by Rivonia choir - brilliant! Superb guide Frans.
Never got to take the tour due to tour operator's poor explanation on meeting point. So I was charged for 5 persons and never experienced anything but disappointment. Evidently this tour operator couldn't access the pier pickup area that all the other tour operators could..
Thank you for your review sorry for the inconvenience caused but all was in order and guide was at meeting point on time as discussed Regards Tuyeni
It was very insightful seeing how some tribes live and learning about the ‘clicking’ language. We were invited to a lunch at one of the family homes. The people were so gracious and hospitable and trying the various foods was quite an experience. I loved seeing the children and how happy and friendly they were. Our guide was wonderful and I would highly recommend this tour.
This was an excellent tour, exceeding the impressions given in the description. The highlights were a small meal of traditional local food during which we were serenaded by a small a cappella group singing to the table, and a visit to a local primary school to meet and interact with the 'library prefects' who sang their school song and talked to us about football and books.
