Itinerary
Discover Pontocho — Kyoto’s lantern-lit geisha district of hidden alleys, maiko culture, and riverside charm.
Experience Kyoto’s beloved Kamo River — where locals relax, couples sit evenly apart, and the city flows with quiet grace.
Step into Gion Shirakawa — Kyoto’s most romantic street of lanterns, willow trees, and flowing water beside timeless teahouses.
Visit Yasaka Shrine — Gion’s vermilion gates, glowing lanterns, and centuries of blessings at the heart of Kyoto.
Season by season beauty—cherry blossoms, fresh green, and autumn colors—plus easy photo spots your guide points out.
Nene-no-Michi — a stone-paved lane linking Kōdai-ji to Ninen/Sannen-zaka, with lanterns, machiya.
Where a fall is said to bring two years of bad luck—part warning, part Kyoto myth.
Claim the classic: from Ninen-zaka/Sannen-zaka, frame the pagoda with tiled roofs at golden hour. That’s the photo friends ask about.
Try the ritual: write your wish, pass through the Enkiri/Enmusubi stone, and seal it with a prayer.
Slip into lantern-lit alleys where maiko may glide past on their way to an engagement (sightings not guaranteed).

Ben was friendly, knowledgeable and respectful throughout the tour. His English is excellent and his knowledge of culture is brilliant. Highly recommend this tour for all first timers to Kyoto. I will definitely come back with my family and will ask for Ben again
Ben is an outstanding local guide with a huge knowledge of geisha traditions. The atmosphere of the tour was like a walk with a good friend. His natural explanations about the culture of geishas were very easy to follow and after the tour we had a very good understanding of this culture. I would recommend Ben and WonderlandJapan 200%. He is also e very good photographer and helping you out with everything you need. We even got restaurant recommendations. Thank you very much Ben.

In January, my wife and I had an amazing day tour around Kyoto with our excellent tour guide Ben. It can be difficult knowing the best spots to visit in a new city. Without his help, we might’ve missed half of the cool places - he knew them all! Ben had a lot of local knowledge to share, spoke to us as if we were already friends, and had a great sense of humour. We learned a lot about Geiko history and performance, and he showed us around trendy areas like Pontocho where we ended up for dinner and drinks, plus we visited Yasaka shrine and walked past the pagoda where we learned more about local religious customs, and we even had time for some shopping for snacks and souvenirs. When we come back to Kyoto, we’ll have to book another tour with him. 5 stars!

I came to Gion several times, but it is my first time to get a clear explanation about Geisha and Kyoto tradition. If you are interested in Japanese culture, I recommend you to take this tour. Also, Momoko san speaks English well and she is very open to answer questions.

I was visiting Kyoto for a few days and my friend told me about this tour, immediately booked. I had a great time walked around and learned about Geisha and Japanese cultural entertainment around Gion area from Momoko san. She had a flip chart with her to help with some of the explanation. She took care of us during the tour and helped taking pictures of us for our memory too. Momoko san was so friendly and answer my questions patiently. Recommended!
