Avoid this tour company – paid for Chichén Itzá Night Show, never went!!

This tour was a huge disappointment. We booked J Capital Travel’s “Chichén Itzá by Night: Mystical Mayan Light Show” specifically to see Chichén Itzá and the night show, which is advertised as the highlight of the experience. On the day, the guide collected 765 MXN per person in cash from us for the night show, then shortly afterwards announced that the show was canceled and we would not be going to Chichén Itzá at all allegedly due to weather issues. No official proof that the show was cancelled was provided to us. For a main service that was never delivered, the company refunded only 500 MXN per person and kept the rest, even though the tour guided confirmed (and we had recording for it) that he did not purchase the night show ticket yet and we never set foot in Chichén Itzá. The tour ended roughly three hours earlier than scheduled, so they also saved on fuel and labor costs while still holding on to a significant portion of our money. To us, collecting payment for a specific, clearly advertised attraction, failing to provide it, and then refusing to return the full amount is a fundamental breach of contract and feels deeply dishonest. We left feeling extremely disappointed and cannot recommend this tour or this company to anyone.

Ups and downs

The trip is too long and ended almost by 3am, which sucked. They picked up people all over including in Tulum, making it longer than expected and adding about 4 extra hours to what was expected. The buffet is not good and you need to take snacks with you, you can only visit the buffet area once. The van was also very tiny and it was hard to be comfortable. Other than that, the cenote is beautiful and a nice swim. The tequila part is also kinda nice but they forbid you to take pictures and basically just let you taste 2/3 different flavors. The show in Chechen Itza is a blast, take repellent and a portable fan if you can

good fortune

Our tour was a bit long, but totally worth it. You can have lunch in a Mayan village. Chichen Itza is truly beautiful, and the staff is highly trained.
