We saw quite a few whales, though mostly from a distance. While I was expecting much closer views, it was at least better than our Seattle whale watching cruise, where we barely saw one. However, boarding was a major hassle because we booked through TripAdvisor/Viator. The crew required physical paper tickets and didn't seem trained to handle guests who hadn't booked directly through the cruise line's official excursions.
Highly Recommended. A wonderful addition to our Alaskan adventure.
Wonderful staff and comfortable boat. We saw several humpbacks. Had a fun time....,,................
Bus driver, Madelyn was spectacular in her narration and self deprecating humor. Once on the boat, they had us around whales within 10 minutes. Saw numerous whales, bald eagles and sea otters. WOULD DEFINITELY DO AGAIN!
I had to call the office multiple times to find our pickup location in Juneau. Once identified we needed to meet at Franklin dock, I was instructed there would be someone there in a bright green jacket holding a sign. Well we searched for over 10 minutes. The individual (agent) was not out in front of the bus - but on the bus checking people in. The Juneau office personnel were very nice and could hear my frustration - directions were not clear. We had no idea we were booked on a Discovery Princess whale watching tour. Viator bought their unsold tickets. 3rd party. I wish we had known these specifics prior to trying to navigate which tour bus we were on. I thought we were being transported to the Marina on a small tour bus. Anyway, it all worked out. The tour was as promised. We saw whales 🐳 and some flukes.
We saw orcas…..that was absolutely incredible. This is the second whale watch I have been on in Alaska. I was hoping for wonderful views of lots of whales. We saw a few “blows” and a few glimpses of their backs.
Meeting directions were so very bad, we never met the “guy in the green jacket”…….so we never got to go!
I was at designated meeting place but tour operator didn't show up. It was a Sunday so their phone went to voice mail. I recommend you look and book elsewhere.
We really enjoyed the adventure, just wished we would have seen a little more sea life. Obviously the crew has no control over the whales. We were lucky to see a pod of Killer wastes, According to our crew member, she said it’s not too often they see them. Over all great experiences and a definitive must do.
The instructions to the bus was misleading & was hard to find. It was Allen Marine agent not a Viator agent also the meetup was at Franklin port not in front of the Elizabeth Peratrovich mural on 292 Marine Way. The information provided was incorrect.
