Description
Take a thrilling ride through Joshua Tree National Park in a comfortable open-air Hummer. Please note: this tour is unavailable December–February due to frigid high-elevation temps. During these months take our Joshua Tree Scenic Tour in our heated van. It’s often 20–30°F cooler in the park—dress in layers! Depart from the Palm Springs Art Museum at 8:30 am (with a scenic, air-conditioned shuttle ride) or save with our Yucca Valley Welcome Center departure where the open-air portion begins. The full tour lasts about 5 hours when taking our shuttle. Explore stunning desert landscapes with a National Park–approved guide and discover the area’s unique ecology and history. With over 100,000 happy guests, this is the ultimate Joshua Tree adventure.

Itinerary
Our shuttle van will take you to the city of Joshua Tree where we trade for our H-1 Military Hummer to complete your adventure. We climb to the top of a breathtaking overlook called Keys Point that will give you a stunning view of the valley below and a view that stretches all the way to Mexico.
Gawk at a view that stretches for hundreds of miles. From this high point in Joshua Tree you can see as far as the Salton Sea and all the way down to Mexico on a clear day. You might even be able to make out your hotel on this escarpment that borders the famous San Andreas Fault. Look below this ledge we will stop at and you will see the fault line itself which stretches for over 800 miles.
We offer an optional mile walk on this view that meanders through jaw-dropping beauty that includes the monzo granite formations of Joshua Tree as well as forests of these ancient plants that survived the Ice Age. Your Hummer guide will escort you through this area and he is a certified Wilderness guide trained in the geology of this area as well as aware of its more recent Native American history.
This offers you an additional half-mile optional walk that loops you around precarious rock formations that balance upon one another. This is one of the most photographed areas in the park and well worth a stop and visit. Do not forget your cameras!

One of the best tours I have never been on. Austin was awesome, he had great communication, was on time, had amazing recommendations, and was extremely knowledgeable! He was also super friendly and a great driver! Joshua tree was beautiful and we got lucky with the weather, making it a perfect day out in the desert. The hummer was so comfy and a blast to be in. Book this immediately!

What a beautiful place to spend the morning! The park is amazing and truly a testament of God's creation. Our tour guide, Tom, was the best. Not only did we learn alot about the park and the surrounding area, we were also treated to great California road trip tunes along the way. Thanks for a great adventure, Tom!
Thank you for sharing your experience. We're thrilled that your family enjoyed the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park and that Tom helped make the morning both fun and informative. We believe the best tours combine amazing scenery, interesting stories, and a relaxed atmosphere, so we're glad the music, conversation, and park highlights all came together for a memorable adventure. We appreciate your support and hope to see you again on a future desert adventure.
Our driver, Tom, was excellent. Had some very informative facts about Joshua Tree, national Park and the area in general. The Hummer itself was okay, but my wife and I ended up picking the worst two seats to have. I asked Dave off to the side if we could maybe switch around some at some point and he said sure. Sure enough, later in the trip he said we should switch up seats so we got a better view for the last half. We went on an easy nature walk during the trip and had a chance to do a little bit of walking around on some of the cooler rock formations. Definitely worth the effort to take this trip.
Thank you for the wonderful review! We're glad Tom helped make your Joshua Tree experience both informative and enjoyable. We're also happy we could accommodate a seat change so you could enjoy even better views along the way. Thanks for joining us, and we hope to see you again soon!
This was a great tour and adventure. Austin made the rides to and from, as well as the tour itself, informative, engaging and enjoyable. It was nice to stop at the visitor center as well. The stops on the tour were amazing, and Austin was a wealth of information.

There were 9 of us in the open air Hummer and, given the time it takes to get inside the park, the actual tour was a bit over 2 hours. So I felt the cost was high ($179). The tour guide was quite knowledgeable and pleasant. When I question him regarding the southern end of the San Andreas Fault, however, his answer wasn’t accurate (as I looked it up later). The tour also felt rushed at times. The sights were lovely and more time for pictures, questions, etc. would have increased the value. Overall, I am glad I went but don’t know that I would recommend this tour unless the price was under $135 or so.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the scenery and found your guide knowledgeable and pleasant. We recognize that value is subjective, and for guests seeking a lower-priced option, we also offer an air-conditioned van tour beginning at $127 per person. Our guides receive extensive training in Joshua Tree National Park, regional geology, and the San Andreas Fault system, and we appreciate your comments as we continue to refine the guest experience.

Thank you for your feedback and for joining us on the Joshua Tree Open Air Hummer Adventure. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the scenery and found the guide pleasant and knowledgeable overall. I also appreciate your constructive comments regarding the pace and the amount of time spent inside the park itself. Joshua Tree’s distances and travel times can sometimes surprise guests, especially on busier days, and your note about allowing more time for photos, questions, and stops is valuable feedback that we take seriously as we continue refining the experience. Regarding the San Andreas Fault discussion, we always strive to provide accurate geological information, and I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Our guides are trained by the parks on desert Institute as well as our own PhD level geologist regarding the history of the park so we believe our guides have accurate information to share.
We had an enlightening and super enjoyable trip with Tom as our guide. Very informative. Looking forward to our next visit.
Thank you for the kind review! We’re so glad you enjoyed your open-air adventure with Tom and found the tour both informative and enjoyable. We look forward to welcoming you back to Joshua Tree again soon!
