Description

Jökulsarlón and Fjallárslón are glacier lagoon at the south end of the glacier of Vatnajökull the biggest glacier in Europe, between the Skaftafell preservation area in Vatnajökull National Park and Höfn. Jokuslarlon Glacier Lagoon is next to the Icelandic Ring Road. The lake is filled with icebergs, which are calving off the Breidamerkurjokull Glacier. We recommend pre-booking to guarantee availability upon arrival. The lagoon has a vast amount of floating icebergs that have broken off Vatnajökull, Europe’s biggest glacier, and floats towards the ocean. Along the way, we will stop at some of the most popular attractions along the South Coast like Seljalandsfoss waterfall, Skógafoss Waterfall and Reynisfjara Black Beach. 30 min

Driving east along the cliffs of Eyjajökull to the magnificent Skogafoss waterfall. You will get the chance to get great photos and take a small hike up to the top of Skogafoss to witness the power from the waterfall above. It drops down 25 m (80ft) and it’s one Iceland’s largest waterfall. If visited while the sun is shining, you’ll be able to see beautiful rainbows since the strong spray of mist.

30 min

One of Iceland’s most popular waterfalls is without a doubt the Seljalandsfoss waterfall due to the reason that it’s possible to walk behind the waterfall and get great pictures and experience the power, mist and the beautiful view behind it.

30 min

The Black Lava Beach is formed long basalt cliffs or columnar igneous rock which are formed at the cooling surface will tend to be propagated down the lava as it cools, forming long, geometric columns. Thus, as lava cools to form basalt, it may crack in a hexagonal (or other) shape and form columns. Reynisfjara Black Beach has really powerful waves that have helped shaped the amazing cliffs. Making them one of the areas most sought after attraction to visit. The cliffs bare many interesting birds, among other species you might see fulmar, guillemot, razorbill, gannet and various types of seagulls. By summertime, the cliffs are filled with puffins.

Fabulous location but our tour cancelled

The lagoon is dreamlike. The icebergs are big and colourful and close to the shore. Sadly, it was too windy for us to go out on the water but the site was marvellous anyway. Staff were helpful and hopeful. We got a full refund.

Great experience

This was one of our favorite activities that we experienced in Iceland. We opted for the group Zodiac tour. The "Duck" boat and Kayak tours don't go nearly as far as the Zodiacs. We went all the way to the glacier. It was absolutely amazing. We saw seals and calving glaciers. I highly recommend this tour.

An Amazing Thing To Do

This is a must do. A lagoon tour on a zodiac. You go out on a zodiac with a small group fitted up in an immersion suit for safety and comfort. The boat zips along at speed to the face of the glacier, but stops along the way to see up close seals on ice floes/rocks, and the incredible icebergs that have calved from the glacier. It's a majestic and unreal experience. Be sure to book before going as it's a popular experience and numbers are limited. People ahead of us when we were checking in could not get tickets - all times for the day were sold out.

We went twice

It's so spectacular that we came twice. The free parking is located right at the lagoon which is very large. Jokulsarlon glacier is quite a distance away and may not be viewable if rainy. The icebergs are numerous and humongous. Seals and birds swim around near the channel to the Sea. To my limited observatiob, the boat tours do not take visitors to the glacier front but to see icebergs more closely.

Worth the Drive!

The five hour drive each way from Reykjavik is worth seeing all the spectacular waterfalls, glacier lagoon boat ride, and diamond beach. We love photography and it was perfect to have a private tour so we could take our time at certain waterfalls to photograph. We stopped along the way for snacks and drinks and loved the road trip and all its views.
