Thien Mu pPagoda, also known as the Pagoda of the Celestial Lady, is a historic and iconic Buddhist temple located on the banks of the Perfume River in Hue. Minh Mang Tomb is the majestic mausoleum of Emperor Minh Mang, the second ruler of the Nguyen Dynasty. Located in a peaceful area surrounded by lush gardens, lakes, and traditional architecture, the tomb reflects a perfect harmony between nature and design. Known for its symmetrical layout and intricate details, Minh Mang Tomb is a must-visit historical site showcasing the grandeur of Vietnam’s imperial past.
1. The seat of the Nguyen emperors was in the Citadel, which occupies a large, walled area on the north side of the river. The Citadel Complex of Hue, set up by Nguyen Dynasty from 1805 to 1945, is now one amongst the relics of the Hue ancient Capital – the World Cultural Heritage, capturing much of tourists’ attention.
Tu Duc Tomb is the poetic and peaceful resting place of Emperor Tu Duc, the 4th ruler of the Nguyen Dynasty. Surrounded by pine trees, lotus ponds, and elegant pavilions, the complex resembles a tranquil royal garden rather than a tomb. It reflects the emperor’s love for nature, poetry, and philosophy, making it one of the most charming and contemplative sites in Hue.
Khai Dinh Tomb, also known as Ứng Mausoleum, is the resting place of Emperor Khai Dinh, the 12th ruler of the Nguyen Dynasty. Unlike other imperial tombs in Hue, it blends traditional Vietnamese architecture with European influences, featuring elaborate carvings, colorful mosaics, and a grand staircase. Its hilltop location offers sweeping views, making it one of the most unique and visually striking tombs in Vietnam.

The guide was knowledgeable enough and the tour of Hue is really interesting! It was a lot and covered many places of interest, with comfortable rides in the car in between. The only thing I would recommend to the guide is better hygiene when working with Westerners as it’s a real turn off when you can’t get close to the guide.

Hoa helped us spend an extraordinary day in Hue. For seven hours, he showed us the city's main attractions, including a couple of tombs he selected himself, the pagoda, and the citadel. He always gave us precise and clear explanations about what we were seeing, making it entertaining and enjoyable.
