The Bombay Hills are a range of hills to the south of Auckland, New Zealand. Though only a small and seemingly insignificant range of hills, they lie at the southern boundary of the Auckland region, and serve as a divide between Auckland and the Waikato region. directly named after the ship Bombay, The ship itself was named after the Indian city of Bombay (now Mumbai). Bombay Means: a breed of black short-haired medium-sized cat.
We stop to get some great coffee at your own expense and a comfort break before we continue our journey into the Waikato region.

Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the unequivocal beauty of the land, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. After returning to Matamata, re-join the luxury coach to travel through majestic tree-lined town that sits at the heart of New Zealand’s rural heartland to visit Lake Karapiro!

- We are able to accommodate a stroller or a pram, provided it is fully collapsible and can fit in the luggage compartment of our buses.
- The only way to access the Hobbiton Movie Set is with a guided tour.
- Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for the conditions, sun protection, jacket/warm layer, & any essential personal items.
- Easy and good fitness level required.
- Bring a camera or a phone with camera capability as Hobbiton is the perfect place to get some great travel photos.
- Children below 8 years old are required to travel in a child safety car seat.
- Children between 5-7 years old are also recommended to be in a booster seat for their safety.
- You must be at least 18 years of age and present a valid photo ID in order to consume alcohol.
- This is a guided walking tour and sensible walking footwear is recommended.
- You must be able to climb and descend stairs and walk on unpaved or uneven terrain.

We had an amazing experience that will always be a cherished memory. On our way to Hobbiton our guide provided interesting information on the history of New Zealand as well as how the topography fit into the Hobbit movies. He was prompt, kind and very helpful too. As for the Hobbiton…what a magical place! We got to see true craftsmen at work bring the imagination to life while being immersed in a stunning world of rolling hills, mystical hobbit holes and charming participants. And the food…delicious!!! It’s a definite must see on your visit to New Zealand!!
