Your tour starts in Auckland - New Zealand’s largest city. As we drive out of the city, your guide will not only set the scene for your adventure but also point out some of the city’s top highlights.
Exiting Auckland we travel south through the stunning Waikato countryside, the most extensive farming area in the world, encountering beautiful scenery, mighty rivers, great photo opportunities, impressive mountains and several farm animals along the way.
Arriving at ‘Hobbiton’ you will board one of the big green Hobbiton buses for a 2.5 hour fully-guided tour of this amazing 12-acre movie set with a professional Hobbiton guide to ensure you get the most out of your visit. During your tour step into the lush pastures of the Shire, visit 44 hobbit holes, see amazing gardens, hear the secrets and stories about the making of the movies, and enjoy a cold complimentary beverage at the famous Hobbiton pub ‘The Green Dragon Inn’.
Sadly we must start to head north again but your day is not over with a fully guided return trip to Auckland including surprise stops. Depending on weather and timing our guides love doing other surprise stops. Maybe a scenic stop near a lake or the chance to try New Zealand ice creams, we love introducing you to local wildlife and animals. You will have to jump on the tour to see where you go!

If your location isn’t listed, please choose your nearest available option & meet us there. *Pick-ups can begin up to 30 minutes before the tour departure time, depending on location. To ensure a smooth start, please be ready and waiting outside 5 minutes prior to your specific pickup time. *Pick-up locations are carefully planned for each tour and may vary by day. If your pick-up location changes, kindly inform us in advance. *Our guides make multiple stops and may arrive within a 10-minute window. We are unable to wait for late guests.

- If you are visiting off a cruise ship, please be aware we cannot guarantee to be back in time for a 6:30 - 8:30pm cruise departure
- The legal drinking age is 18, and ID may be required
- Children aged 7 years and below are required to travel in a child safety car seat. You can provide your own or one can be provided for $20 NZD (with 24 hours notice).
- Minimum numbers apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if there are not enough passengers to meet requirements. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund.
- Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately.
- Due to uneven surfaces, this tour is not recommended for those with walking disabilities or using a wheelchair.

Great tour that brings Hobbiton to life. A wonderful behind-the-scenes story and set that offers loads of info and photo opps. Jess, our guide, was fun and showed her passion for the films and site. We loved it.
A great small group trip to see Hobbiton! Our driver, Simon, was very friendly and informative throughout our drive and made lots of great recommendations for things to do the rest of our trip. Snacks and water were provided in the van, and extra stops were made as time allowed for coffee and ice cream. Would recommend!
We had an awesome day! It started off with us being picked-up at out hotel when we had another meeting-point! Then we had a lovely tour-guide (Jeoff) whom made our day even better. Then we arrived at hobbitton with few expectations and it blew our minds! So much information and such a lovely place! Could not recommend it enough!

Tour was well organised, van was comfy, and pickup/dropoff sites are convenient! Thank you Simon and Cheeky Kiwi for arranging this unforgettable trip. Note: We didn't realise how bad Auckland traffic was during weekdays, thanks to our tour guide Simon for making it a bit bearable - informing us early on on what to expect and providing an ice cream stopover before heading to the traffic zone on on our way back to CBD.

Highly recommend the day trip to Hobbiton. Cheeky Travel managed all the logistics very well. The actual tour of Hobbiton is in the hands of the operator and its guides - time management, sequence and explanations are incredibly organized supported with a wealth of information about the filming that took place there. Expect roughly 3 hours on the road each way, and 3 hours at Hobbiton.

Pickup was on time and the driver (Ark) was incredibly friendly and well informed about local landmarks and history. We got there with plenty of time to browse the gift shop and have lunch before the tour started and enjoyed a scenic drive on the way back which also arrived with no delays. Overall a fantastic experience.
