The A-Bomb Dome, or Genbaku Dome, is one of Hiroshima's most iconic and haunting landmarks, preserved as a stark reminder of the devastating atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. Originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, this structure was one of the few buildings near the epicenter to survive the blast, though it was severely damaged. Its skeletal remains have since been carefully maintained as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, symbolizing the resilience of Hiroshima’s people and their commitment to peace. Visitors to the A-Bomb Dome can walk around the structure, observing its preserved state, and reflect on the immense destruction caused by nuclear weapons. It stands as a powerful testament to the horrors of war and a call to action for global nuclear disarmament, offering a profound and sobering experience for all who visit.

Through a vast collection of photographs, artifacts, personal belongings, and survivor testimonies, the museum tells the human stories behind the tragedy, portraying the devastating effects of the bomb on the city and its people. The museum also provides historical context about the lead-up to the bombing and Hiroshima's efforts in advocating for nuclear disarmament. The Children’s Peace Monument is a heartfelt tribute to the memory of the children who lost their lives due to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who developed leukemia from radiation exposure, the monument symbolizes hope and a wish for a peaceful world. Sadako believed in the Japanese legend that folding 1,000 origami cranes could grant a wish, and her determination to fold cranes even in her final days has become a global symbol of peace. At the monument, visitors can see the bronze statue of a girl holding a golden crane, surrounded by display cases filled with colorful paper cranes sent from around the world. Guests are invited to fold and contribute their own cranes, adding to the collective hope for peace. The site encourages reflection on the impact of war on innocent lives and the power of unity in advocating for a nuclear-free future. It is a place of solemn remembrance and enduring inspiration.

45 min

The Cenotaph for A-Bomb Victims, located in the heart of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, is a solemn and powerful tribute to those who lost their lives in the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. Designed by renowned architect Kenzo Tange, the arch-shaped monument shelters a stone chest containing a registry of the names of all known victims, regardless of nationality, race, or belief. Inscribed on the monument is the heartfelt epitaph: “Let all the souls here rest in peace, for we shall not repeat the evil.” Positioned in alignment with the A-Bomb Dome and the Peace Flame, the cenotaph offers a space for quiet reflection and remembrance. Visitors can pay their respects by bowing, offering flowers, or simply contemplating the profound loss and resilience the site represents. The Cenotaph serves not only as a memorial but as a reminder of Hiroshima's enduring call for peace and the elimination of nuclear weapons.

Positioned near the Cenotaph, it is intended to remain alight until nuclear weapons are completely abolished. The flame stands as a beacon of hope for global disarmament, urging visitors to reflect on the importance of peace and the catastrophic consequences of nuclear warfare.

A memorable day and remarkable guide

This turned out to be a real highlight of our time in Japan, and made for a very memorable experience. Our tour guide for the day was Gajender, a wonderful Indian chap with the most incredible command of English and Japanese. He was there early to meet us at Hiroshima train station, and tailored the day perfectly to fit with the time we had available. Thankfully we are relatively fit and we were able to keep up with the fast pace and Gajender's high energy, to ensure we had the best experience and saw everything possible. It was cram packed with great information and we was so lucky to have a guide with so much local, historical and research knowledge. Miyajima was wonderful and Hiroshima was very emotional. Make sure to take umbrellas. The heavy rain we had, seemed fitting. This tour comes highly recommended, and as it is private, accommodations can be made where possible. At the day's end, it felt like we had made a really good friend. If you do this tour, please request Gajender, you won't be disappointed.

Didn't miss this. Peace Memorial Park must never be forgotten

This tour was incredible, and Peace Memorial Park and museum is heavy on the heart, but important for the world to understand and never forget. Miyajima Island is a gem, nestled on the forestry hills. Enjoying a meal local to just this region was special. Our guide, Kazuko Mensing was amazing. She was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, organized, and part of the history of this area. She made this tour one of the best. Highly recommend.

Powerful Journey Through History, Resilience & Beauty

What a surreal experience this was. Our guide was outstanding and truly went above and beyond to make it a memorable day for us. Visiting Hiroshima was a genuine bucket-list experience. Being there in person makes you realize the true scale of the events that took place. What we read in history books as children or watch in documentaries can never compare to standing at the Peace Memorial and experiencing it firsthand. The city carries a deep and painful history, and there is certainly much that world leaders can learn from its past. At the same time, Hiroshima is a remarkable example of resilience—rising from the ashes to become the vibrant and thriving city it is today. Miyajima was equally beautiful, with the deer freely roaming around and the stunning scenery all around. Our guide’s knowledge, insights, and understanding of the area made the experience even more special. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Japan. It was an unforgettable experience from start to finish.

Amazing Tour for Hiroshima

After our cruise stops were changed due to a typhoon, we found ourselves needing to plan what to do in Hiroshima. This tour was PERFECT! It hits the highlights of the city and still shows you so much more than I even realized was there. If you happen to get so lucky to have Minori be your tour guide, YOU ARE IN FOR A TREAT!! She is the kindest and most thorough tour guide who spent the entire day being flexible and understanding when we had some of our group go back to the boat unexpectedly. She handled all the conversations in Japanese and even asked for permissions for us to skip lines and have extra room. She took us to the most AMAZING lunch place which was a local spot with DELICIOUS food!! The entire group agreed this was the best meal then entire 2 week trip. Minori was an excellent tour guide; but even more than that, she made us feel like her own family. Our day in Hiroshima was exceptional because of her. HIGHLY recommend!! And if you can request her, you are in for a REMARKABLE day. Hands down!!

Good Hiroshima tour.

Kazuko Mensing was a very informative and attentive guide. She answered all the questions and even shared her personal family insights on the area. Hiroshima is a very complicated place for an American to tour and she and the tour made it less so. Would definitely recommend visiting just for the history. The island was also cool.

Be aware: Inadequate Communication

We were excited to take the tour. It never happened because of poor communication with tour operator and disconnect between Trip Advisor and Viator systems. The operator failed to message us for a month about where we were staying. Since I still did not hear from them, I contacted them day before the event in the message app. Again they were delayed responding to later in the day. They didn’t mention anything was wrong in the address provided. They said we would get a message in Whats App. What is not explained is that if you update information in Trip Advisor after booking, it doesn’t update a message to tour provider and the tour provider didn’t confirm number in communication. We cannot see what they see and didn’t know they had a wrong number. Since the address was odd, they went to a local hotel instead of the address. Interesting thing is we were able to find place using the same address. We tried contacting the agency at 0905 when they didn’t show where we were located, however, they failed to answer the phone or message us back. We called Viator and they couldn’t get a hold of them. After 30 minutes we still had no contact. When they did get in touch I asked to cancel. The company bothered me for information as we were touring. We tried to work it put and they would not accept any responsibility or refund the full amount. Do not waste your money. We did the same tour for 1/10th the price on our own.

Operator response

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that your experience did not go as planned, and we understand how disappointing this situation must have been for you. 🙏 However, we would also like to clarify a few important points regarding the booking and communication process. At the time of booking (Apr 27, 2026, 06:25 AM), the pickup location was not fully confirmed. Later, we received your message stating you would be staying at an Airbnb at The KNOT Hiroshima (4-chōme-3-7 Ōtemachi, Hiroshima). Based on this information, our guide proceeded to the meeting point at Hotel KNOT, which is a well-known landmark in Hiroshima, and waited there as arranged. Regarding contact details, the phone number initially provided was attempted on the morning of the tour, but we were unable to reach you at that time. We also want to highlight that the address format you provided contained slight inconsistencies in wording, but it still clearly pointed to the KNOT location, which our guide correctly identified and went to. At 09:21 AM on the tour day, we received a refund request while the guide was already waiting at the meeting point. Just two minutes later (09:23 AM), we informed you that the guide was on site and ready to begin the tour. Unfortunately, at that point, the tour was already being cancelled from your side. We always try our best to communicate clearly and resolve any confusion in real time. After the initial no-show window, we also continued communication through alternative numbers provided later. We are truly sorry that this situation caused frustration, but we do not believe this was a case of non-performance, as the guide was present at the confirmed meeting location and ready to start the tour. That said, we sincerely regret that you were not able to enjoy the experience you were looking forward to. Our goal is always to provide smooth communication and memorable tours, and we will continue working to improve clarity in pickup coordination to avoid misunderstandings like this in the future. 🌸 We appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best in your future travels.

Insightful and Heartfelt Journey with Reika

Heartfelt tour or should I say journey that took us from the tranquil grounds of Miyajima to the historic tragedy of Hiroshima. Our tour guide, Reika, was phenomenal. Her grandmother survived the atomic bomb and was recognized in the Hiroshima Memorial. We also visited Reika’s elementary school that had a special Hiroshima Memorial. I highly recommend taking this tour.
