You take trains to Kurama station.
Kurama-dera, a beautiful and historic Buddhist temple located in the mountains north of Kyoto, offers a serene and spiritual experience amidst natural beauty. Admission fee : apx. 500 JPY per person.
The hike from Kurama to Kibune is a popular and scenic trail that offers beautiful natural landscapes, serene forest paths, and cultural experiences. It is approximately 4 kilometers and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. The path winds through a serene forest with tall cedar trees, offering a cool and tranquil environment.
Kifune Shrine, also known as Kifune-jinja, is a beautiful and serene Shinto shrine located in the village of Kibune, just north of Kyoto. It's renowned for its connection to water deities, its picturesque setting, and its spiritual significance. This deity is believed to control water and protect those who travel by sea. Hydromancy is included.
You take a bus from Kibune-guchi Station to change at Kokusaikaikan Station, and then head to Kyoto Station. Admission fee : apx. 740 JPY per person.

Our tour guide, Mark, was lovely and very knowledgeable about the region we were visiting as well as Kyoto in general. The hike to Mt Kurama down to Kibune was wonderful. Well paced, and both my 15 and 7 year olds were able to keep up with the pace and stayed engaged engaged. Although it was raining, we had a magical time there, hearing birds singing while walking through the forest and watching the water streams and we hiked through Japanese cedar forest. Also enjoyed Soba noodles lunch, Mark recommended. We look forward to having more visits in the future in the region.

Hideoki san was an excellent guide. We explored the mountain along trails. He taught us about each shrine along the way. We enjoyed conversation with him as well. He is very pleasant and kind. Wear hiking shoes and clothing! The hike was a real hike. We loved it.
