Itinerary
Hakone Sekisho was an important barrier established to monitor the Tokaido Highway during the Edo period. It is the only one of the 50-odd barrier stations in the country during the Edo period that has been completely restored using the skills and tools of the masters of the time.
The underwater torii of Hakone Shrine is one of the most popular ‘Instagram’ spots in Hakone. It is visited by many people, including foreign tourists, every day. This underwater torii was built 67 years ago, in 1952, to commemorate His Majesty the Emperor Imajo's Risshiki Rei and the signing of the Peace Treaty at the time of Japan's independence.
