Nestled among scenic mountains and gentle rivers, this centuries-old village embodies the Confucian ideals and class structure of the Joseon Dynasty. With over 160 hanok-style homes scattered across the hills, some still inhabited today, visitors can stroll past tiled rooftops, ancestral halls, and ancient academies. Surrounded by nature, Yangdong offers a serene, immersive look into Korea’s aristocratic past. (Lunch time at own expense is included)

First constructed in year 674, it is an artificial pond in Gyeongju National Park that is filled with lots of historical memories. The Korean government temporarily drained the pond in 1972, revealing thousands of Silla artifacts that had fallen into the lake or were thrown in.

The Woljeong Bridge in boasts a rich history dating back centuries. Constructed with sturdy stone arches, it stands as a testament to ancient engineering techniques. Spanning the Woljeongcheon Stream, this historic bridge has been a vital link in Gyeongju's transportation network for generations, serving as a tangible reminder of the city's past.

A rich cultural experience

It was a long day because of the heat but with just the right balance of places to visit. It would have been nice to spend a bit more time at the temple. Jake, our guide, gave us the right amount of information at each spot. He was gracious about giving us a few minutes extra at some of the spots. Thank you, Jake, for the rich cultural experience organized by you and your team.

Tour in July

Had a fantastic time on this tour, met some great people and the guide (Jake) made a great effort to make sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying their time. The tour plan was also quite comprehensive, though I would have liked to spend more time at Bulguksa temple. The tour size was also reasonable, and not too large. Would recommend to those interested in sightseeing and learning a bit of history too.

Quality guides, a great tour.

This Gyeongju tour was brilliant. Went to all of the main attractions. The day was structured very well, not rushed and not too slow. Well worth the price! Christina was a fantastic guide: she is engaging, very considerate and a great communicator. Christina created a great environment for the tour, where I also met some great people. I strongly recommend for experience what Gyeongju has to offer in a short amount of time.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Christina (tour guide) was fantastic!

Christina, our tour guide, was not only incredibly knowledgeable about Korean history and each of the sites she took us to in Gyeongju, but she was also very personable and easy to communicate with throughout the tour. As a solo traveler and academic in the U.S., I was impressed with her ability to answer tough questions about Korean society throughout important epochs. She made an effort to include everyone as much as possible, even offering to take pictures for everyone at every stop. Her energy and personality are exactly the kind necessary for a tour like this, and her curiosity about the world and where travelers come from and make sense of Korean history is admirable.

Disappointing trip

Unfortunately, this tour was very disappointing. Our tour guide, Olivia, made the experience feel quite boring. The explanations at each site were very basic and delivered in broken English, making it difficult to fully appreciate the history and significance of the places we visited. There was very little interaction with the group, and the tour felt robotic rather than engaging. What made this even more disappointing was that there was another Chinese-speaking guide leading a different group at the same time. My wife understands Chinese, and she told me that his explanations were much more detailed. He shared the history behind each site, gave useful travel tips, and even took his group to the best photo spots. In comparison, our group was mostly left to explore on our own. We were simply told to walk around, read the signs, and return by a certain time, with only a very brief introduction beforehand. We’ve joined many guided tours throughout Korea, and this was by far the worst. A good guide should add value beyond what visitors can read on the information boards themselves. The restaurant recommended for lunch also felt like a tourist trap and was well below average. We were given no real alternative—either eat there or go without lunch. We were travelling with a five-year-old who wasn’t even hungry, yet we were still required to order three full portions just so he could have a seat. That policy felt unreasonable and left a poor impression. The biggest disappointment was the drone show. Ironically, it became the highlight of the evening—even though we never got to see it. The group was asked to leave at 7:55 pm, even though the drone show started at 8:00 pm, just a few steps away from Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond. It’s difficult to understand why we were taken away only minutes before one of Gyeongju’s main evening attractions. When we asked Olivia about it, she said she didn’t know there would be a drone show. That explanation was hard to believe. The area was already packed with people waiting, and there had even been a practice drone performance beforehand, which she also saw. It was very obvious that the show was about to begin. It was frustrating because, with just a five-minute adjustment to the schedule, the entire group could have enjoyed one of the most memorable attractions of the evening. Overall, this tour felt bored, lacked meaningful commentary, and missed what should have been one of the highlights of visiting Gyeongju. It was a disappointing experience and not one I would recommend.

Operator response

Hi there, this is TOURSTORY. Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We value every comment—positive or critical—as it helps us improve our tours and overall service. Your comments regarding the guide’s explanations, English communication, and level of interaction have been shared directly with the guide. We have requested improvements to ensure that future commentary is more informative, engaging, and helpful to guests. Regarding the drone show at Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, the event schedule had not been communicated to our guides in advance and was not included in the itinerary published on the booking platform. The guide therefore followed the confirmed schedule and moved to Woljeonggyo Bridge after the designated visiting time. The guide only became aware of the drone show after the group had already departed. Had the event information been available beforehand, we would naturally have considered adjusting the schedule where operationally possible. Regarding lunch, the traditional village has a relatively limited range of dining options. Guests who do not wish to eat at the recommended restaurant may also spend the time at a nearby café or explore the surrounding area. Nevertheless, we understand your concern regarding the restaurant’s minimum-order policy for children, and we will share this feedback with the restaurant and request that they review the policy. To ensure a more consistent experience, we are reinforcing our service standards and communication guidelines with our tour staff. Kind regards, TOURSTORY

Memorable Gyeongju tour with Minju

We had a great tour of the city of Gyeongju with Minju Lee. The entire tour was perfectly scheduled and organized. We saw all the important spots at a great pace. Since this was a big tour group, it was no small feat for Minju to manage this big group and keep us all happy. She kept all of us very well-informed. She was very friendly, personable and so patient with all of us. I will forever remember this wonderful city tour and our tour guide Minju.
