Your guide will accompany you to the stone circle, explain all about the building of Stonehenge, explain the old and new theories about why it was built and who built it, and point out all the other parts of the Stonehenge complex. You will then have free time to explore the site and to experience the exhibition in the Visitor Centre.
Join your guide on a 90-minute walking tour of the city to hear all about its history and the famous people who have lived there. There will be free time for you to explore the city independently. I've been on many of these types of tours all around the world and Matt is by far the best tour guide I've ever had. You can see how much he loves what he does and he is brilliant at it.
This was an excellent tour package! Matt was a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide, and I enjoyed learning from him about the history of Stonehenge and Bath and the surrounding area. The coach was a great way to travel and the tour was well-paced, it felt like we saw a lot in one day but we never felt rushed. In Bath we had the option of either following Matt on a walking tour or having some free time to explore -- we opted to see the Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths Museum, which I highly recommend. I am sorry to have missed the walking tour -- too many good options! Overall a wonderful experience and we'll definitely have Roots on our short list any time we're back in Cambridge.
It was an incredible tour. We learned so much about Stonehenge and Bath along with other nearby cities-villages. Our tour guide, Matt was terrific. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Stonehenge and Bath. Super friendly and outgoing. I would recommend him to anyone considering the tour!
My kids who learnt about Stonehenge were just fascinated by this tour. Matt explained the history and took us safely through all the destinations.
Obviously a long coach day ride from Cambridge to Stonehenge and Bath. The tour guide was also the driver. It would have been better to have a different driver and a tour guide.
Many thanks for your feedback. At Roots, all tours that we operate are for small groups of 16 passengers per tour in vehicles small enough to allow us to take even the narrowest of country lanes to show all aspects of Britain and not just the locations headlined in the tour. You haven’t explained why it would be better to have a driver and a guide but we think this is unnecessary and is financially unviable when travelling with small groups. Besides, a driver-guide adds flexibility as it allows us to visit places off-the-beaten-track in response to the interests of our passengers. It is also interesting to hear your thoughts about the information you received from the guide as we have never received disapproving feedback like this. Our commentaries are always prompted by what is visible in the landscape as we travel, and by the sites we see in the destinations we are visiting. We offer broad-ranging commentary to inspire all passengers on a tour. Our passengers are of all ages and come from far and wide, each with a very different awareness and understanding of Britain and its history, so we like to share information about events that have shaped Britain’s past and events that are shaping the direction of Britain today. By covering all bases, so to speak, this inspires connections between passengers and provokes conversation between them. I am sorry that this approach did not suit you but I am glad you were still able to rate the tour as ‘good’ and I appreciate you spending time to submit a review.
Great trip! We enjoyed the stories with our guide Matt, he is very knowledgable! Happy with the tour! We had such a wonderful time, great weather.
We had a wonderful experience! It was a very enjoyable tour and Matt, the tour guide, is very kind and extremely knowledgeable. 100% recommended!!
Outstanding tour! My wife and I truly enjoyed the informative trip. Kept to schedule with great narration. The tour had 16 people in it. So,felt like a private tour.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our tour guide, Matt. His extensive knowledge of English history, great sense of humour, and patience make him a fabulous storyteller. Thanks to him, the experience was truly incredible.
I had the best time and would highly recommend Roots Travel & Tours to anyone. It was much nicer to have a small bus tour and Matt was knowledgeable, friendly and the tours are so well organised. I was lucky enough to go on the Windsor and Oxford trip and Bath and Stonehenge. Unfortunately, I missed out on the York tour but I know it would have been fantastic too. The walking tours were great and it was a good mix of walking tour and have time to spend on your own walking around. Thanks Matt!
