Gran Canaria Easy North Half Day Tour

Description
Northern Gran Canaria is all non-stop natural beauty. This tour delves into this often-overlooked part of the island's treasure chest. You'll visit Spain's largest botanic garden, a banana plantation and one of the best beaches in the Canaries. David, one of our local guides, says, ‘Bananas are our national fruit – they're a symbol of the Canaries. Explorers sailing to the Americas would take green ones that ripened en route. And we exported so many to Britain that Canary Wharf in London got its name from us.

Itinerary
First up is a deep dive into this island's continent-like biodiversity. Planted on a hillside, Jardin Canario is the largest botanical garden in Spain. It boasts more than 2,000 species of plants, 500 of which are endemic to the island. Tour the tree-lined grounds and learn all about the initiative's conservation efforts and environmental education programme. Next up is a banana plantation, where you'll discover 13 varieties of plantain from all over the world.
The final stop will include a guided tour of charming Firgas village, a cluster of narrow streets lined with traditional Canarian houses. Explore the photogenic streets with your guide, who will explain the presence of so many fountains in this little town. Afterwards, you'll have free time to discover more of the delights of Firgas at your own pace, perhaps stop for a leisurely coffee or look for souvenirs.

Gran Canaria easy half day tour. We went on this trip as a family of five with an eleven year old, eight year old and two year old. We started at San agustin the bus was scheduled to arrive at 09.20 but was about 20-30 minutes late as there was a delay. We rang the travel company who answered straight away a very helpful lady then the bus showed up. We were pleasantly surprised to be the last pick up then headed straight to the botanic garden which took about 30 minutes. We had about 45minutes to an hour at the gardens we took the push chair the paths were accessible but there were quite a few sets of steps although these were pretty shallow so we just carried the push chair when needed so don’t hesitate to take the push chair it was do able. Garden had loads of cactus’s, palm trees, ponds unfortunately the top area was shut due to a rock slide so we couldn’t see that bit. There are some weeds and the fountain wasn’t working but overall we enjoyed it lots of clean toilets which is always good with kids. Next we headed to the banana plantation not very far about 20 mins on the coach. The coach stopped on the road so only about a 5 minute walk from the coach again we took the push chair as our son was asleep 😴 gravel paths in the plantation but just about able to push him around one set of stairs but we were able to carry the push chair up these. Banana plantation was brilliant really interesting we were split into an English group and a German group we learned alot about banana plants! three jams to taste plus two wines and the banana liquor. Nice play area for the kids trampoline and Wendy houses we were there about an hour wish we had a bit longer so the kids could play for a bit. Banana wine and liquors and jam were delicious so we brought them! They accepted card so that was good. Next we went to firgas not very long on the coach maybe 20 minutes. Firgas was very pretty fountains to see and lovely tiled mosaics of the Canary Islands, church was beautiful good to have a look inside. There was also a playground so kids had fun on the swings and slides. We took lunch with us and drinks. there was a cafe in firgas but probably best to take lunch with you. We had about an hour in Firgas. It took us about an hour to get back to San agustin we also saw the cathedral from the coach. Overall this was a fantastic trip which took about 5.5/6 hours. The guide on the bus gave us alot of information about the plants in the gardens and local wild life.
