Itinerary

60 min

We visit the iconic Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Here giant ice, bergs and chucks, bobble in the calm lagoon after having calved off the enormous Vatnajökull glacier to the immediate north. Eventually this ice will drift out to sea. The lagoon is magical in the summer, when the sun ripples through the ice, resulting in beautiful colors.

30 min

Just to the south of Jökulsárlón lies Fellsfjara beach, or as it is commonly called the Diamond Beach. After the ice from the glacier lagoon drifts out to sea, the tide washes it back ashore on this desolutely beautiful volcanic black sand beach. Often there can be countless shards of ice of all sizes - from rock size upto the size of a small car. The contract between to glistening ice and the black sand is really something to behold.

30 min

Eystrahorn marks the point in which south Iceland merges into the east. The remote marker is a spectacular sight to behold - its horn shape peak looming over Hvalnes Peninsula with the Atlantic ocean to the south. This is a great photo opportunity.

Awesome

Beautiful views of glaciers and mountains on the way. Our guide Eva made the trip so enjoyable and she was very easy going. The iceberg lagoon was. unbelievable and pretty cool that you could touch the icebergs that ended up. on the beach.

The glacier lagoon was magical.

The bus ride was an hour and forty five minutes from Djupivogur without stops and our guide narrated stories about Iceland for some of the way. The scenery was juste as important. Once at the lagoon we got instructions on what to do there and got 90 minutes to wander around, take photos, walk to the beach, find lunch from one of the food trucks and come back to the bus. The ice formations on the lagoon were in diffenert colors and it all seemed a bit magical. There was more ice on Diamond Beach. I saw a harbor seal sunning itself on one of the ice floes in the lagoon. The ride back was the same time, except for an additional five minutes when they stopped after seeing a herd of reindeer and let us take photos of them. There was more narration on the way back as well.

Incomplete itinerary

Loved seeing the Glacier Lagoon and the Diamond Beach. . We were suppose to have a 3rd stop per their itinerary. Tour guide said “we are not going”. There was no explanation as to why not. The tour lasted 5 1/2 hours and not the advertised 7 hours. What we saw was fantastic. I took off a star because we did not see all that was advertised. I am just glad they did not remove seeing the Glacier Lagoon or the Diamond Beach.

The most beautiful colors!

Amazing colors in the glaciers and black sand beaches! Our tour guide was Rosa, she was amazing, and our driver Arthur was wonderful! It is a bit of a drive, but they are from Iceland and give you so much information as you drive you really get a great education about culture and a chance for any questions you have. The sights are breathtaking, beyond colors we have seen in Alaska!

Genuine insights into Iceland

The tour guides were genuine ambassadors of the country and region. They gave us history and taught us songs and phrases. The lagoon was worth the drive!

Awesome tour

This was an awesome tour. We booked it through Viator for a cruise ship stop in Djupivogur which is a tender port. Bus Travel Iceland was very good about calming anxiety about making it to shore on time. They had 3 busses scheduled and when the first bus filled up it left and then they loaded the second bus. The experience at the glacier lagoon and diamond beach was unbelievable and the long drive over was amazing. We saw lots of wildlife including reindeer

Love The South Coast Scenery

Lovely scenery and fabulous sights. Some discussion of land, social issues and history. Guide played Icelandic music and that was fun.
