Excellent arrangement by Madeira TukTuk to stop by souvenir shops before returning to the ship.
The gardens themselves are really nice with lots of botanical specimens. Easy to get to either by bus or by two cable cars. lovely to walk around and some great views down into Funchal. The thing which let it down for me was the toilets. WCs had seats missing and the urinals, two were covered in plastic bags . in the men's loo not only was there no seats but the flushing mechanism was broken. No toilet paper or hand towels.
The park of the Botanical Garden 15€ is not worth the Tropical Garden 10€ a little higher.There is still the Cactus space to see, the view of the highway, so a little noisy and the parking very small. Take an Uber instead of the cable car, it will cost you 5€ from the center of Funchal.
The tuk-tuk picked us up at the port and took us to the Botanical Garden. We had an hour there to explore it on our own (no guide at the garden). We were then taken back to town and at our request dropped off at the city square. We had a great view of the city and the harbour, from the back of the tuk-tuk. Would recommend if you are looking for transportation to the garden, but not a guided tour.
The two drivers we had (2 couples) were excellent very accommodating and knowledgeable, we all enjoyed the tour immensely, would definitely book again

Amazing gardens on a steep hill side. Incredible views down to Funchal. The succulents are spectacular!

We had booked the Old Town/Botanical Garden tour with pick-up at the cruise terminal. Before we arrived, we had great communication with our guide Luis, who kept us well informed about the process via WhatsApp. Unfortunately, on the day of arrival, the harbor pilots in Funchal went on strike, meaning our ship couldn't dock (we were only informed of this by the shipping company at very short notice). The cancellation deadline had already expired, but Luis agreed to a cancellation with GYG. We found this to be sensationally accommodating and were very pleased. Unfortunately, we couldn't go on the tour, but if you evaluate the communication, then we are sure: Luis and TukTuk are 100% recommended! Absolutely TOP!

Andrea was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. The Botanical gardens were beautiful and trip up and down was fun. The tour was interesting.
