Full Rioja Wine Tour with Lunch from Bilbao - Private Tour

We booked a private Rioja wine excursion with Azul Tours from Bilbao, and it ended up being one of the most enjoyable days of our vacation. Our driver, Matteo, was outstanding. Professional, punctual, knowledgeable, and genuinely pleasant to spend the day with. He made what could have been a long transportation day feel effortless. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish, allowing us to focus entirely on enjoying the wineries, scenery, and experience rather than worrying about logistics. Matteo was also flexible when needed and offered helpful local insights throughout the day. Good drivers get you from place to place. Great drivers become part of the experience. Matteo definitely fell into the second category. We would not hesitate to book Azul Tours again.

We spent an incredible day exploring the Rioja wine region. Mateo was an excellent guide — friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about wine. The wineries we visited were outstanding, and each tasting featured top-quality wines. Lunch was delicious, served at a charming local restaurant that focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Fantastic experience in La Rioja with Matteo! We explored three amazing wineries, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and everything was perfectly arranged. The car was very comfortable, making the journey even better. Highly recommended!

Mateo was our driver and guide for the day and was very polite and helpful. He explained what we would see. He had to translate in English and Spanish. We went to two bodegas and in one of them we were able to see the full process of wine making. We were a party of 4 and we were very happy and pleased with the whole experience, the bodegas, the food and Mateos company and attention to detail. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

We had an amazing time on this tour with Matteo! He was prompt, professional, knowledgable, and personable. To start, he picked up as directly at our hotel in a comfortable and immaculately clean vehicle. On the drive to Rioja, we got to learn a bit about the area. We had two pre-planned visits to wineries which were both excellent and both had snacks provided. The choice of wineries was clearly well thought-out and served to show the array of wine created in the area. The destination for lunch and choice of food was excellent. Matteo was an excellent tour guide; in addition to his knowledge it was an enjoyable day talking to a local. Would definitely do this tour again if I come back to area with new friends/family, and recommend this to anyone in the area.

My husband and I really enjoyed the wine tour with Matteo. He knows a lot about wine and we loved the bodegas he took us to. It was nice because it was a private tour and we got to see more of the wine making process. We enjoyed the tour so much we have booked with him again for our upcoming trip!

Winery tour with lunch was fantastic, Matteo was great company all day and the quality of the two tours and wine tasting was just perfect.

My husband and I prefer doing private tours, so we booked this wine tour and were very happy with it. Our tour guide picked us up at the arranged time at our hotel. The transportation was very comfortable and our driver drove in a safe manner. We drove through the countryside and saw the Rioja Wine region and he explained as we were traveling. We visited two wineries which were both extremely different. The first one, Lozano, was my favorite because we saw the vineyards and had a tour of the winery. We even had a chance to pick a few grapes and sample. After the detailed tour of the winery and learning a lot about the Rioja region and the wines, we tasted several different wines and had a few local foods. We then went to the second winery which was much different and were able to sample a few of their wines. All of the wines we sampled at both wineries were very good, but of course, some were better! After the wineries, we visited a small town with an amazing view of the countryside. There we walked through town and stopped at a local eatery where we were treated to a fantastic lunch, again with some local treats. Our guide was absolutely fantastic. He delivered us back to our hotel safely. I highly recommend this tour if you like wine and private tours!

Matteo was personable and very knowledgeable on the Rioja region. He was on time picking us up from Bilbao. We really enjoyed the wineries that Matteo selected for us and lunch in Laguardia was great. We would highly recommend Matteo as a guide to others.
