Description

The Namibian South-Atlantic west coast is famously dangerous with foggy weather, many reefs, strong Benguela Current and swells. It is shrewn with countless remains of dead ships. One of these is the Shawnee a transport tug that ran aground on 16 February 1976, 15 miles north of Conception Bay. Another is the wreck of the Eduard Bohlen passenger and cargo ship, that ran aground south of Conception Bay on 5 September 1909 in thick fog and now lie about 600m inland.

An unforgettable adventure — dunes, wildlife, and a gourmet beach picnic!

This tour was everything I hoped for — and then some. It was very well-organized from start to finish. The 4x4 vehicles were incredibly comfortable and handled the sand like a dream — smooth, powerful, and built for the terrain. We started with the surreal pink lagoons of the salt pans, followed by a surprise bonus: flamingos and pelicans! I hadn’t seen them the day before and didn’t realize they were part of the itinerary, so I was thrilled. Then came the highlight — the breathtaking sight of towering sand dunes meeting the ocean. Driving along the beach and over the dunes was exhilarating and so much fun. I’d expected a quick lunch stop with a simple sandwich — but what we got was an absolute feast: schnitzel, meat skewers, fish fillet, fresh oysters (!), salads, desserts (koeksisters, brownies, and more), and even sparkling wine — all served picnic-style on the beach with the dramatic backdrop of the Atlantic and dunes. While the “shipwreck coast” was really just one wreck (not a whole coastline), it still made for great photos and a perfect lunch setting. No complaints — the entire experience was thoughtful, exciting, and full of unexpected delights. Highly recommended if you want a day that combines adventure, scenery, wildlife, and a few luxury touches you wouldn’t expect in the middle of the desert!

Very nice tour and a great team of the provider!

The tour could not be carried out quite as booked due to external influences. The team responded absolutely professionally and allowed us a very nice day - we would love to come back!

Highlight of our Namibia trip!

This was by far one of the highlights of our trip to Namibia! Mike was an amazing driver and guide who was able to tell us so much about Sandwich Harbour and its surroundings. The drive itself was incredible, we saw so many breathtaking views, including the Eduardo Bohlen shipwreck. We also had lunch on the beach, with no one in sight for kilometers except for pelicans. Absolutely recommended!

Unforgettable day

Great day, very well organized. Beautiful is the part in boat with dolphin and whale watching, both the part in jeep. Very good
