Itinerary
Yehliu Geopark - Yehliu topped the voting list of top 10 landscapes in Taiwan conducted by Taiwanese Government in 2015. The Yehliu Geopark is divided into 3 areas, The first one is the terrain area, consisting mainly of Mushroom Rocks and Candlestick Rocks. The rocks in the second area are similar to the first one, but just in smaller quantity, and the Queen's Head Rock in the second area is the most popular. The third area is the abrasion platform which is also an Ecological Conservation Zone. You will also enjoy the surrounding beautiful scenery and coastline either.
Jiufen - Generally speaking, Jiufen, Jinguashi and Shuei-Jin Jiou. Jiufen is a little higher than Jinguashi above sea level. The two communities were both initially gold-mining towns. They came to the verge of getting abandoned due to mining coming to a halt. Though there is no more gold mining, the place draws the crowds of tourists bringing money into this town. Jiufen Old street, when walk toward the old street from Geding Parking lot. You will get to check out the famously beautiful mountain and sea scenery. With shops on both sides, Jiufen Old street is very confined. Even the sky seems very narrow when looking above. There are plenty of choices with many delicious Taiwanese snacks here.
Jinguashi and Yinyang Sea - When heading north on Coastal Highway 2, Shueinandong is right before the border between Northeast Coast and North Coast Scenic Areas. You will see a castle-like dark gray building by the highway. This is the defunct Li-yue Copper Refinery owned by Taiwan Metal Mining Corp almost covering the entire mountain wall. Due to its 13-story height, the locals call it the Thirteen Stories, the abandoned factory used to refine ore taken from Jinguashi Gold Mine. We will drive by here, you can check out two different shades of the sea. This is the origin of the name Yin Yang Sea. Yin-yang in Chinese means "dark and bright". Contamination from copper refining used to be thought to have caused the two shades of the sea. It's known for certain now that the iron sulfide flowing along the stream and into the sea is the cause.
Pingxi Old Street - The old street has the second largest old street in Pingxi, and is full of delicious food, souvenirs, and opportunities to light off sky lanterns. From Pingxi station you can walk down to the historic streets in the small town, and take selfies with the train tracks and bridges that cross the two rivers passing through the town. It is definitely a must see stop along the Pingxi Railway. Pingxi Sky Lantern, the practice of lighting off sky lanterns in Taiwan began in Shifen, when during the Qing Dynasty local villagers would flee into the mountains during raids from bandits. Once the bandits had left, the remaining villagers sent sky lanterns into the air to let the fleeing villagers know that it was safe to comedown from the mountains. The people of Shifen send off sky lanterns as a symbol of peace, and celebrate every year during Lantern Festival, a Chinese holiday. Now you can see tourist lighting off sky lanterns everyday from Shifen or along the Pingxi Railway.
I also can provide custom tour by travellers, if there is any place that you would like to visit or explore let me know I can plan ahead for you.

With only a few days in Taipei, we wanted to make sure we saw the best of the city, and this tour delivered beyond our expectations. The day was planned so efficiently, combining major landmarks with cultural insights seamlessly. Our guide's expertise saved us so much time and hassle. We accomplished more in one day than we could have in three on our own. For the amount of knowledge, convenience, and sights covered, this tour is an incredible value.
We had an amazing tour with Ilha Formosa Tours! Our guide was outstanding, providing a fun and insightful look into Taipei's culture. We loved the well-planned itinerary that never felt rushed. It was a seamless, 5-star experience from start to finish and the best decision we made on our vacation. We can't recommend them enough!
Booking with Ilha Formosa Tours was the best decision we made for our trip to Taipei! Our guide was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. The tour was perfectly organized and showed us the incredible beauty and culture of the island. A truly 5-star experience from start to finish. Highly, highly recommended!
Highly recommended. We had Jay as guide cum driver in a very comfortable seven seater car. Jay was very helpful, friendly and informative. He helped to arrange the vegetarian restaurant for us as one of my family members is a vegetarian. The whole trip was enjoyable and well planned.
We stayed in Taipei and Yilan for 6 days. We visited many places such as Shilin Night Market, Tamsui, Zhang Mei Ama’s Farm,E- Long Goat Farm and Water Geothermal Square. We enjoyed so much in scallion picking and making scallion pancakes in a village in Sanxing. Kids loved feeding various kinds of farm animals. The animals were adorable. The trip went smooth as we were led by Taiwanese drivers. They drove clean and comfortable 5-seater sedans. They were polite and drove very safely. They introduced Taiwanese culture and places to us. They also took family photos for us. Thank you so much for your great hospitality. It was a wonderful trip.
Jay, the driver is very a nice and responsible guy, able to speak Mandarin, English and understand a little bit Cantonese. The car's condition is great, very comfortable, clean and tidy. Our family have a great and memorable travel experience with Jay and definitely will re-visit again.
