From Ouranoupolis: Mount Athos Monasteries Sightseeing Cruise

Description
Embark on a scenic cruise from Ouranoupolis, the gateway to the sacred peninsula of Mount Athos. Sail along its western coast and take in panoramic views of this UNESCO-listed spiritual center, home to centuries-old monastic communities. During the journey, you’ll have the opportunity to admire 8 of the 20 historic monasteries, rising dramatically above the sea. Each monastery tells a story of devotion, tradition, and architectural beauty, preserved for more than 1,000 years. As access to Mount Athos is highly restricted, this cruise offers a rare and accessible way to experience its unique atmosphere and history. Relax on board while listening to informative commentary about the monastic life and cultural significance of this extraordinary place. Keep your camera ready throughout the cruise—dolphins are often spotted swimming alongside the boat, and you may even catch a glimpse of the rare Mediterranean monk seal in its natural habitat.

We had a great day with perfect weather. The monasteries are partly highly impressive. Before the return journey began, one of the monks arrived on board with relics. What one should consider: - allow enough time before the start of the tour. One of the parking lots was already completely full. - Sun protection! We arrived 30 minutes early, and all the shaded spots were already taken.
Nice trip for a good price, we had some problems understanding the information that were given to us in the back of the ship.
A very nice boat driver that I have done many times. The light and the sky are always different. Grandios
Child seats. I would have my knees in the crotch of a stranger's wife. Much too small , too cramped , crowded. I couldn't sit 180 cm. A drama with a heel spur.
Dear Mr. Baasner, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience. Kindly note that the maximum capacity of the boat is 140 seats and at the day of your travel there were 87 tickets sold, which leaves us 53 with empty seats. Our company offers private cruises as well for the customers who wish to have more intimate experience. We wish you all the best. Calypso Cruises Team
The boat passes very far from the coast so you cannot see any details of the monasteries. Time wasted. I saw boats from other companies stopping near the monasteries along the coast, unfortunately we were very very far away. Bad experience.
Dear Customer, Thank you for leaving your review. We would like to inform you that according to the Greek law, no touristic boats are allowed to approach the coastline of Mount Athos closer than 500 meters. The boats which allowe to approach the cost, are those that do cargo transportation, or transfer of pilgrims to the monasteries. Kindly note, that only men having special premision (Diamonitirion) can visit Mount Athos area. Further more, in the description of the tour we mention that the boat will keep the distance from the shore, as per Greek law and Mount Athos regulations. We wish you all the best. The trip to the monasteries did not take place. Four points, however, for cancelling the Booking Referral made well in advance of the date and rebooking the costs already paid. Cancellation was the announced and then also occurred storm with high waves. Too bad, would have been an interesting tour.
It was off-season, but still quite crowded with tour groups. With the seats you already had problems and actually 30 more people would have fit on the boat. The tour then was along the coast and you saw some monasteries. Wasn't bad, but too many people on board.
Great boat trip. About 4 hrs. long which was longer than stated in description. Lots of monasteries to see and photo. Sit on left side facing the front of the boat for best views. The boat didn't go close to land/monasteries on return trip and went faster. Good value for price.
Discover the monasteries and Mount Athos from the sea. A big downside about inaudible comments in general and very limited in French (3 minutes of a bad French against at least 1 hour in English / Greek). The ride is nevertheless worth it
Well organized. Nice clean boat. Polite crew. Well stocked bar. Clean toilets. Narrative was ok. Could not hear it very well. Need better speakers
