We found the camel ride at Maspalomas to be a unique and enjoyable experience. You reach the camels by walking along the pedestrian pathway on the edge of the dunes park, passing by the pond on your right. The camels appear to be well cared for. They form a train, tethered together. Each pair of guests are seated on wooden seats, with a rope retainer, on either side of the hump. For couples of unequal weight, sandbags are added to balance things out for the camels. They are loosely muzzled but can still chew on branches and twigs through the muzzle. Each pair of seats is labelled with a camel's name. The actual ride takes about 30 - 40 minutes, on a sandy path on the edge of the dunes, with lots of native brush. When we took the ride, in late September, there were about 15 camels in our "train". The advice to wear a hat was well taken. There were 3 guides looking out for the camels and guests and taking pictures with guest's cell phones. The camels largely knew the route and needed little encouragement. We read later that camels had been part of life in Gran Canaria for centuries, for transport and agriculture, and were now primarily for tourism. We enjoyed our unique ride!
It was heartbreaking! When the animals weren't forced to carry obese tourists ( two people who were both at least 100kg each), they're chained up in the sun, with barely any room to move. It was obscene
Best tour we have been on in along time. Highly recommended. Tour guide was full of imformation and very welcoming.
Lovely tour on easy to ride electric scooters.Lorenzo provided a fun, safe and educational tour of the go to spots. Saw the dunes, many sun set points, listened to a local musician, went to the botanical garden and to the Rotary amphitheater area close to five star hotels. Would def recommend taking this tour with Lorenzo. Very professional and personable.
We had a wonderful time! Our guide knew a lot about the surrounding! We had a private tour, we’ve seen the dunes, the lighthouse, the boulevard, the botanic garden etc. The chopper is great! Thanx a lot!
We booked on site, English language skills necessary Handover and route explanation went uncomplicated, the scooters are really great vehicles and not difficult to steer, speed kiting up to 35kmh possible, the tour shows some nice views on the promenade in Maspalomas (dunes, lighthouse, beach) we had booked 2h for a total of 70 euros (35Euro per scooter), really hefty price but in retrospect well-angled money. We had a lot of fun 2h were quite enough, if the sun has not finished you the butt starts to hurt ;)
Highly recommend this tour!!! The electric bikes were great fun, super speedy but also easy to get the hang of. Lorenzo was an excellent guide. Really knew the history of the area and took us along a mainly coastal footpath route mostly avoiding traffic. The highlights were a sunset cafe where we stopped for a drink/ice cream and the grand dunes- Lorenzo kindly extended the tour so we could enjoy the magnificent sunset over the dunes-which was simply breathaking. An excellent tour and excellent guide- highly recommend!
I recommend doing it first thing as soon as you arrive in Maspalomas..you have the opportunity to understand the location well and have useful information for your stay on site. Pleasant and very kind Lorenzo who has been our guide. Only advice better one chopper each... that two seats is uncomfortable after the second hour! Otherwise tt cute!
Super nice tour and really worth it!!! The guide Lorenzo is a top guy and tells nice interesting things about gran canaria!
Our guide Lorenzo led us on adventurous paths to the dunes of Maspalomas, explained the bird and plant life and was open to any question. We had 3 varied hours which we enjoyed very much. Interestingly, it is forbidden to ride the scooters on the road, but the pedestrian zone is allowed. So we could use the long beach promenade. Very nice, but I don't think it'll be allowed for much longer. The excursion was one of the highlights of our stay in Gran Canaria
