As we approach the valley from the south, we stop at a strategic viewpoint between Lamego and Régua. Here, you will witness your first breathtaking vista of the Douro River winding through the mountains. It is a perfect moment to capture the scale of this UNESCO World Heritage landscape before we head down to the riverbanks.
Known as the international headquarters of the Douro, Régua is where the history of the Port wine trade truly comes to life. Surrounded by majestic terraced vineyards, this vibrant town serves as our gateway to the heart of the valley. From here, we begin our descent into the most scenic landscapes of Northern Portugal.
Experience a stretch of road frequently voted the "Most Beautiful Drive in the World." This scenic route between Régua and Pinhão hugs the Douro River, offering front-row views of the famous "schist steps"—the man-made terraces that have defined this region for centuries. We take our time so you can soak in the world-class scenery.
Our journey culminates in the charming village of Pinhão, nestled deep within the Douro canyons. This is the authentic soul of the region. Here, we enjoy a premium wine tasting at a renowned estate, sampling exquisite Port and Douro DOC wines. You will also have time for a traditional lunch overlooking the terraced hills before we begin our comfortable return to Lisbon

This is a long day but so worth the trip! Our driver and guide, Filipe, was second to none. The driving was excellent and safe despite rain most of the day. He was attentive to the need for breaks from driving. We thoroughly enjoyed the olive oil museum, the vineyard tour, and the boat ride.

Our tour guide Felipe and the trip plan he crafted truly was a one of a kind experience! He was very knowledgeable on Portugal’s history/geography and constantly had great conversation topics throughout a ~14 hour private tour. The tour plan he crafted around Douro Valley and the personalized experiences we had were really exceptional. I can’t recommend this company and tour guide enough if you are coming to Lisbon. It is 110% worth the adventure. The cost is well worth what’s included and the views are out of this world.
