The National Museum of Qatar is a national museum in Doha, Qatar. The current building opened to the public on 28 March 2019, replacing the previous building which opened in 1975. The building was designed by architect Jean Nouvel who was inspired by the desert rose crystal, which can be found in Qatar. The museum site includes Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani's Palace, which is the heart of the Qatari national identity. A tour of the museum takes visitors through a loop of galleries that address three major, interrelated themes. The galleries are loosely arranged in chronological order, beginning with exhibitions on the natural history of the desert and the Persian Gulf, artefacts from Bedouin culture, historical exhibitions on the tribal wars, the establishment of the Qatari state, and finally the discovery of oil to the present. The displays and installations that explore these themes present audiovisual displays with carefully selected treasures from the museum's collections.
Is the largest and the most multi-dimensional cultural project of Qatar. It is a place where people come together to experience the cultures of the world. With beautiful theatres, concert halls, exhibition galleries and cutting-edge facilities, Katara aims to become a world leader for multi-cultural activities.
The Pearl-Qatar is an artificial island spanning nearly four square kilometers. It is the first land in Qatar to be available for freehold ownership by foreign nationals. The name "The Pearl" was chosen because the island is being built on one of Qatar's previous major pearl diving sites. Qatar was one of the major pearl traders of Asia before the Japanese introduced cheaper more affordable pearls just before Qatar's oil boom. The Pearl-Qatar helps to represent Qatar's rich past in the pearl industry. The Pearl is said to resemble a string of pearls.
Souq Waqif (Arabic: سوق واقف) is a marketplace (souq) in Doha, in the state of Qatar. The souq sells traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It is also home to restaurants and shisha lounges. The original building dates back to the late 19th to early 20th centuries in a traditional Qatari architectural style. Luckily, in 2004, it was decided to preserve this historical site so the entire market area has been renovated and restored according to the traditional Qatari architectural techniques. It’s probably the only traditional souq left in the Gulf.
The Doha Corniche is a waterfront promenade extending for seven kilometres along Doha Bay in Qatar's capital city, Doha. Annual celebrations of national holidays such as Qatar National Day and National Sports Day are centered on the Doha Corniche. It is a popular tourist and leisure attraction within Qatar.

We had the most incredible private tour of Doha that truly brought the city to life. Our guide, Shahid, was knowledgeable, personable and made the entire experience unforgettable. One of the highlights was the National Museum of Qatar, whose breathtaking design, shaped like interlocking sand dunes, was an architectural marvel as well as a cultural treasure. Shahid also guided us through the bustling Souq Waqif markets, where we soaked in the vibrant atmosphere, and then on to the modern elegance of The Pearl and Gewan Islands. The blend of tradition and modernity was perfectly showcased with visits to the amphitheatre, stunning mosques and the serene beaches. The car was wonderfully air-conditioned, giving us comfort between stops, yet there was plenty of walking to fully absorb the spirit of each location. It was a fabulous afternoon of discovery, filled with stories, history and charm. We left with a much deeper appreciation for Doha and would highly recommend this tour – and Shahid in particular – to anyone wanting a rich and rewarding experience of this beautiful city.
This was such an excellent tour!! Our tour guide was beyond fantastic, and took amazing photos of us in amazing places. We got chai at a night market, held a falcon, bought some souvenirs, and drove along the water. As I’m writing this months later, I forget our tour guide’s name unfortunately, but he was amazing and we greatly appreciated his hospitality.
