Itinerary
Goðafoss, located in North Iceland, is one of the country's most famous and beautiful waterfalls. It drops 12 meters (39 feet) over a curved, horseshoe-shaped cliff and stretches about 30 meters (98 feet) in width. The waterfall is fed by the Skjálfandafljót River, which originates from the Vatnajökull glacier. Known as the "Waterfall of the Gods," Goðafoss is not only stunning but also steeped in history, linked to the adoption of Christianity in Iceland around the year 1000. Its turquoise waters and picturesque surroundings make it a favorite destination for visitors.
Hverfjall, also known as Hverfell, is a striking tephra crater in North Iceland, located near Lake Mývatn. Formed around 2,500 years ago during a volcanic eruption, this massive crater is nearly circular, about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) in diameter, and 140 meters (460 feet) deep. Its black, rocky slopes offer a unique landscape, perfect for hiking. A well-marked trail allows visitors to climb to the rim, where they can walk around the entire crater and enjoy stunning panoramic views of the surrounding volcanic terrain and nearby Lake Mývatn. It's a must-see for nature lovers and geology enthusiasts.
Reykjahlíð is a charming village located on the shores of Lake Mývatn in North Iceland, known for its stunning volcanic landscapes and geothermal activity. With a population of just a few hundred, Reykjahlíð offers a peaceful atmosphere, surrounded by natural beauty, making it an ideal stop for travelers exploring the region. During the tour, there will be a 15-minute lunch stop in Reykjahlíð, allowing visitors to enjoy a quick meal or snack while taking in the scenic views of Lake Mývatn and the surrounding volcanic scenery.
Dettifoss, located in Northeast Iceland, is one of Europe's most powerful waterfalls. It plunges 44 meters (144 feet) into the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon and spans about 100 meters (330 feet) in width. Fed by the glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, which originates from the Vatnajökull glacier, Dettifoss boasts a dramatic flow rate that creates mist and a roaring sound, offering a spectacular display of raw natural force. The surrounding rocky, volcanic landscape adds to its stark beauty, making it a popular spot for nature enthusiasts and photographers.

Breathtaking, amazing!! Very easy process from start to finish. And our guide ARANCHA was incredible, super knowledgeable and helpful! Absolutely love and recommend the small group tour!!
This tour was by far the best one we took while in Iceland. Our Guide/driver Elsa, was not only knowledgeable & informative but so sweet & kind. She accompanied us at each stop but gave us leeway to adventure out on our own too. She was also an excellent driver & not only told us about the history & significance of each stop but since she grew up in Akureyri she knows all the local stories too! I highly recommend her & this tour!
Perfectly timed stops with an excellent guide. Peter was personally interesting while keeping us on schedule and informed on all things Iceland! Everything was well coordinated, and the stop for complementary coffee, pastry and the clean bathroom stop at the small hotel at Godafoss was a nice bonus. Great scenic tour and a wonderful guide.
Such a great experience Views are unbelievable Waterfalls are incredible Highly recommend Perfect day in Iceland
We really enjoyed the crater excursion. And the waterfalls. We had an excellent guide It's very worth the visits.
We had a great day on this tour. Small group tour is definitely the way to visit these waterfalls and crater. Our tour guide was very good. I don't remember his name. Hiking up the crater was a little tiring but worth the walk.
Birkir was PERFECT! I am not going to go into the long story of how we ended up with Birkir. I am just happy that he was our guide. He knows everything about Iceland. He clearly loves Iceland, and he wants you to know, and love, Iceland as much as he does!! I have never met any guide with such humor, confidence and knowledge. He really likes his job. This man is a gem!!! Saga Travel might actually have one of the best customer service I have ever experienced. Again, I will not go into details about the first tour guide. I will just say that Saga takes its customer service very seriously. They go above and beyond to ensure that you have a good experience. I am shocked by the professionalism and prompt response. You are doing a huge disservice to yourself by not using this company. I absolutely appreciate them, and I wholeheartedly endorse them!!!
The waterfall was awesome! Just the right amount of time to explore it. The crater was otherworldly. There wasn’t enough time to walk the rim.
Highly recommend this tour. Sage travel was easily located in the Akureyri port and left right on time. Rúnar was our tour guide and he was excellent. His knowledge and passion for Iceland were supremely evident, and I can’t rave enough about how excellent he was. There wasn’t a lunch provided but the tour made a stop right on our route at a grocery/convenience store. At godafoss, Saga travel had an arrangement with the Hotel right next to the waterfall that let us get some free coffee and Icelandic pastries as well as use a restroom with zero line/ cost, which was very cool. Of the three tours we’ve done in Iceland so far, all with different companies, this one was the best.
Peter was our tour guide for the day. My wife and I had the best experience seeing the beautiful waterfalls and scenery . Peter is very knowledgeable about the area and the country of Iceland. He was prompt with our pickup and drop off to our cruise ship. We highly recommend Saga and Peter the best tour guide!!!!
