[Full Day Option Only] Upon arrival around 12PM, you'll bypass the main crowds and embark on a special 45-minute trek along a secluded forest trail. This path leads you through the protected watershed, the very source of Kuang Si's magic, where ancient trees stand guard over the springs.
[Full Day option only]This hidden trail brings you to a beautiful natural spring. Here, nestled by the water in a tranquil outdoor setting, you’ll find a small, open-air restaurant run by a local Khmu family—a place rarely seen by other visitors. Enjoy your lunch (choice of dishes) in this stunning natural plaza, knowing your meal directly supports the local community.

The Kuang Si Falls, sometimes spelled Kuang Xi or known as Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three levelled waterfall about 29 kilometres (18 mi) south of Luang Prabang. These waterfalls are a favourite side trip for tourists in Luang Prabang. The falls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside. These lead to the main fall with a 60 metres (200 ft) drop.
Conclude your unforgettable day with a magnificent sunset cruise, returning to Luang Prabang around 6:30 PM. This gentle journey back on the Mekong perfectly captures the tranquil spirit of your adventure.

Excellent tour with Da to the Kuang Si waterfalls and sunset Mekong River cruise back to Luang Prabang. Da provided us with great story telling and information about the sites we were seeing. Highly recommend and worth the half day.
The place is amazing. It is being taken over with commercialization. Still worth a visit and the tour I took was wonderful. Also the walk to the top gives a nice view but not of the falls.
Thank you for visiting and for the honest feedback! We’re so glad you found the falls amazing and enjoyed your tour. You’re right – the area has seen more development lately. We’re working to keep the experience authentic while managing the visitor flow. Thanks for mentioning the walk to the top. We’ll make sure future guests know it’s for the landscape view, not the falls. Hope to welcome you back again, maybe for the morning boat trip next time!
Definitely go there but in the morning at seven.Masses of tourists

We had an absolutely excellent day visiting Kuang Si Falls. The experience began with a prompt pick-up from our guesthouse, followed by a relaxing morning cruise along the Mekong River. Our first stop was at a local rice farm, which was both informative and enjoyable a great cultural introduction to the day. From there we continued on to the Falls. Pany handled all the entrance formalities seamlessly, allowing us to sail straight through the gate without any delays. The Falls themselves were magnificent. The climb to the top certainly provided a good workout, followed by a 3km hike to the restaurant, but every step was worth it. Lunch was simple but good, and we had plenty of time to swim in the turquoise pools, explore the springs, and simply relax in the beautiful surroundings before heading back down. We returned to the boat via electric cart and minibus, and the sunset cruise along the Mekong was truly spectacular a perfect and peaceful way to end the day. A special mention must go to our guide, Pany, who was outstanding. He was patient, knowledgeable, and great fun to be around. He also captured photos and videos throughout the day and kindly shared them with us via WhatsApp, which was a lovely touch. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Luang Prabang.
The waterfalls were beautiful and it was nice with a dip after visiting the bear sanctuary and exploring around :)
"Aww thanks for sharing! 😊 Glad you loved the waterfalls and bear sanctuary. Dipping in the water sounds like the perfect way to unwind afterwards. Hope to plan another adventure with you!"
If you like mass tourism and a minimum service, well done, you found. This half-day excursion comes down to transport , first by minivan to go then by boat bus to return and to seem to admire the sunset ... behind you; no stop on the menu. Note that we waited 20 minutes for another batch of tourists to arrive to fill the boat and finally leave. In between , the guide before you let go and disappear , tells you the time you have to return to the starting point. That’s all. Next, it’s free to go through the middle of a million Chinese. The place is pretty and worth seeing but know that it is oversurvived! Under these conditions, go in the morning and organize yourself (it’s easy); moreover you will have explanations in French on site by photographing the flash code at the entrance of the park. Wonder if the guide knew because he “forgot” the info. To be honest , a very good point: a very cold beer when getting in the boat....
Dear jfb195594, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the crowds during the Lunar New Year peak impacted your experience at Kuang Si Waterfalls. As you correctly noted, your visit coincided with one of the busiest periods of the year. While we strive to provide the best service, the overall density of visitors at public sites is, unfortunately, beyond our control. To address the very issue of overtourism you mentioned, we actually offer an alternative tour option that takes guests to the forested area at the top of the falls. This itinerary involves walking through the serene springs and streams that serve as the water source—far away from the general tourist crowds—and enjoying lunch at a local restaurant by the spring. Had you chosen this option, we are certain we could have provided you with the more tranquil and authentic experience you were looking for. Regarding the guiding on the standard tour, our itinerary is designed to provide essential context and safety information upon arrival, followed by free time. This allows guests to explore the various pools and the bear sanctuary at their own pace. Regarding the QR codes: these are provided by the park management as a self-guided resource for independent visitors to complement the on-site experience. Concerning the boat transfer, we wait for all members of the group to ensure everyone returns safely. We appreciate your patience during those 20 minutes, and we are glad you enjoyed the sunset and the cold beer on board. The beauty of Laos is best experienced in tranquility, and we hope you might consider returning during a quieter season or joining our trekking option to see the serene side of Luang Prabang. Warm regards, Yuki, Manifa Travel
We did a half day tour and spent approx 2.5 hrs at the park. The walk-up passing the bears sanctuary was nice and relaxing. And once we reached the falls it was extraordinary, very unusual and worth the trip. It was exactly as you see it in all the pictures ! Unfortunately we didn’t go up the steps to the summit next to the falls. On the way down we took the other route (the one most people took to go up) and even had a leisurely cuppa halfway and did some people watching. Definitely worth the trip and enjoyed it much.
"Glad you had a fab time at the park! 😊 Sounds like the walk-up and falls didn't disappoint. No worries about missing the summit steps, sounds like you still soaked up the vibes. People-watching with a cuppa halfway down sounds like a great plan too! Thanks for sharing, hope to welcome you back!"
Beautiful waterfalls although it was very crowded and 2:45 min there was longer than we needed. The boat trip back to the city at sunset was magical and unforgeteable.
"Glad you enjoyed the waterfalls and boat trip! 😊 Sorry it was crowded, but sounds like the sunset boat ride was absolutely worth it. Thanks for sharing, hope the memories stick!"
We booked the half day Khuangsi Waterfalls trip. Going to the falls in the morning was great, as it wasn't crowded. Also, the road to the falls is in pretty bad shape (as of February 2026)--rutted and dusty. Being in an air-conditioned van was very pleasant, and alone worth the cost of the trip. But on top of the comfortable ride, our guide Pany was terrific. He took us on a lesser-used trail to the top of the falls. He knew the best viewpoints and took plenty of pictures for us. We had plenty of time to climb up to The View and go through the bear rescue. We also stopped at the Hmong village. Overall, a great morning.
