El Puente de Las Iguanas, is a one-lane bridge located in Muelle de San Carlos, Costa Rica. It is a popular spot for tourists to see and photograph iguanas, which are often seen basking in the sun on the bridge and its railings. The bridge is also a popular spot for fishing. In addition to being a popular tourist destination, El Puente de Las Iguanas is also an important part of the local ecosystem. The iguanas that live on the bridge are an important part of the food chain, and they help to control the population of rodents and other small animals. The bridge also provides a habitat for a variety of other birds and reptiles. Here are some tips for visiting El Puente de Las Iguanas: - The best time to see iguanas is in the morning or early evening, when they are most active. - Be patient and quiet, as iguanas are easily startled. - Do not feed the iguanas, as this can make them sick. - Be respectful of the environment and leave no trace of your visit.

Border Town with Rich History: Los Chiles was originally inhabited by indigenous groups like the Guatusos. It played a role in the second campaign against the filibusters in 1857, with a path created to cut off enemy use of the San Juan River. Today, the town reflects a mix of Costa Rican and Nicaraguan influences due to its proximity to the border. Gateway to Nature: Los Chiles is a popular jumping-off point for exploring the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, a vast wetland teeming with birds, monkeys, crocodiles, and other wildlife. Boat tours are a popular way to experience the refuge's biodiversity. Los Chiles might be a small town, but it packs a punch in terms of cultural immersion, natural beauty, and outdoor adventure.

Best way to see wildlife!

Saw many amazing birds! All three types of monkeys and so much more wildlife! It was the most wonderful day we have had in Costa Rica. Our guide was so knowledgeable! Knew every bird and animal and so much about them. Our captain had the eagle eye!! Enjoyed every minute! Got wonderful pictures!

Adventurous day trip with many animals up close

A very varied tour ! We have seen many animals up close in their natural environment. Birds, capuchin monkeys, caiman, turtles, etc. The boatmaster responded to the wishes of his guests and he always had an eye for where the animals were. A tour with high experience value- Highly recommended !

Incredible Wildlife and an Excellent Guide

Excellent Caño Negro boat tour — easily the best daytime wildlife experience I’ve had in Costa Rica so far. Caño Negro itself is an absolute must, with an incredible amount of life everywhere you look. Our guide Daevid was friendly, knowledgeable, and fantastic at spotting wildlife. On the drive in, we saw macaws and toucans. Once on the river, he pointed out basilisk lizards, kingfishers, caimans, herons, iguanas, howler monkeys, and white-faced monkeys. He always stopped the boat so everyone had time to see and take photos, and he was very talkative and happy to share tips on where else to see wildlife. The boat driver, Mango, was also excellent — great eyes for spotting animals and very skilled at positioning the boat perfectly for photos. The group size was just right and never felt crowded or rushed. The pickup was slightly late, but communication was good, and it didn’t affect the day at all. Lunch was tasty and a nice change from the usual casado — a rice-based dish with chicken or vegetable options. It’s about a 2-hour drive each way from La Fortuna, but absolutely worth it. I’d 100% recommend this tour and would happily do it again.

An excellent floating safari

Our floating safari on the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge was excellent. Our boat driver knew all the nooks and crannies in the Refuge and was able to find, and explain, the many birds and other wildlife we saw. After our safari was over, we then had an excellent Costa Rican lunch served by very friendly, helpful staff. There were also toilet facilities available where we eat and these were very clean.

Unmissable activity in fortune

The tour is very well organized, suitable for people with reduced mobility, our guide David was excellent in identifying species, they knew exactly the location of each animal family and knew many details of its biology and behavior. Both David and the captain spread their enthusiasm for nature with us travelers. Highly recommended activity.

Nice experience

Nice trip with the boat, we saw a lot of wildlife and flora (monkeys, iguanas, cayman and birds). The scenery was beautiful. The guides were ok, but could refresh their knowledge about the wildlife. The trip with the bus to the place was very long, although the bus itself was convenient. I would recommend doing the tour just for the sake of seeing the animals.

Very nice river trip

A beautiful tour. 2 hour drive in a van. Short stop at a bridge with large iguanas. Then we went on the boat. It can hold about 30 people. The trip on the picturesque river takes 2.5 hours and the guides make a great effort to find every animal, no matter how small, and give you enough time to take photos. We saw 20 different species of birds. But also monkeys, caimans and turtles. Everything is very relaxed 😎 Lunch was good and plentiful 🐊☀️🥳
