Car was very clean. Driver was on time and was a good driver. He was dressed nicely and very clean-cut.
Delight in our visit. We will come back for a guided tour.
Having a driver was a great way to travel. He allowed us all day to tour the Cathedral, eat lunch, walk around, and enjoy Chartres.
Chartres is a wonderful day trip; our driver was perfect. The cathedral is amazing. And the town of Chartres is quaint and welcoming.
Lovely driver, pristine roomy vehicle, on time. But no water no written guide, 1:55 trip arrived too late to get an audio guide. So essentially just a ride to and from the Cathedral.
The cathedral was breathtaking! It was worth the 90 minute scenic drive from Paris. The stain glass windows are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and the carved choir screen was amazing.
On the way to Bordeaux we stopped in Chartres to rest and see the Famous Cathedral and the windows with the legendary “Chartres blue”. I was there twice about 25 years ago. The difference from then to now? Through soot from candles and incense, through the dampness of people within 1,000 years, the cathedral was dark, the windows were also dark - but in sunshine shining through the windows into the cathedral, it was imposing but also “repellent”. Today: The frz Staat as the owner of this “World Heritage building has renovated and is partly still doing so. The entrance area of the longitudinal aisle, incl. The choir and apse shine in new/old colours are , most of the windows have now been cleaned. What a shine, what wonderful colors and pictures! This hominal “Chartres blue”. For me, the cathedral was always wonderful, sublime and the building where the Gothic style really developed. Here the old builders learned and have been on construction sites all over Europe, where they showed and developed the art of this architecture. The Cathedral of Chartres is virtually the “firstborn”. Many cathedrals in Europe and on the (Gr. Britain, Ireland, .....) Islands in the English Channel have been created in their model. The cathedral - unlike its little sisters - was only slightly damaged in the French Revolution and one stands devoutly in the middle of its floor labyrinth, looks through the longhouse towards the altar, sees the large cross, which almost seems to float, turns around and looks at the magnificent window rosette, which illuminated by the morning sun in the very highest coloured splendour the nave. I win so gratefully that I was able to experience this jewel of a building so beautifully again. How must a medieval man have felt 1,000 years ago?
Having no guide which was part of the deal. The driver and car were very nice but we were dropped off down the hill. There is a lot of consruction and no signs to indicate where to enter. We spent a while trying to find the entrance and all sides are barricaded. The chapel itself is great and worth visiting.
This is just a private driver trip. The review is not a reflection of the driver it is a reflection of the trip description and the price charged. He was great and communicative. For the price paid I was just expecting fully guided experience. It worked out though because we were able to go on our pace through the church, town via the Little Train ride, and the shops.
The cathedral is very beautiful with stained glass windows and wonderful portals. We also visited the very suggestive crypt. It's a shame that the labyrinth was inaccessible and not very visible because it was covered by chairs. They told us that only on Fridays do they remove the chairs and the labyrinth can be seen in all its splendor.
