Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace Experience

Description
Led by a historian and designed by a former Guardsman, this walking tour is the best way to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony. You’ll get historical context, insider knowledge and great vantage points. You’ll also walk alongside the New and Old Guards as they march along The Mall. If you are wondering, it is as exciting as it sounds. You’ll see Buckingham Palace, of course, but you’ll also visit St James’s Palace and Clarence House, and understand how these royal residences fit into this world-famous ceremony. If we’re lucky (it sometimes happens), you might even catch a glimpse of the King and Queen. Finally — and just as importantly — there’ll be plenty of fun and laughter along the way, as confirmed by the many five-star reviews.

Itinerary
We begin in Trafalgar Square, the historic heart of London. Not only is it easy to find, it also has a direct link to the origins of the Changing of the Guard ceremony. While you're here, we'll show you the spot that marks the very centre of London. You'll also discover why Lord Horatio Nelson is one of Britain's greatest heroes, what we did with all the cannons captured from the defeated French, and why it might be worth patting the paw of one of the famous lion statues.
This palace rivals Buckingham Palace and is a must-see in its own right. It’s also where the Guards come off duty, offering a fascinating behind-the-scenes perspective of the ceremony. One of London’s most historic sites, it’s steeped in centuries of history, scandal and intrigue. Not every tour includes it — but we most definitely do.
One of the highlights of the tour is marching alongside the King's Guards and their ceremonial band as they make their way down The Mall towards Buckingham Palace. Few experiences bring you closer to the spectacle. You'll hear the military music, watch the precision drill at close quarters, and enjoy views that most visitors never even realise are possible.
This immense Georgian barracks is where the Changing of the Guard both begins and ends, and we will be here to see the new Guard come on duty.
Your Changing of the Guard experience concludes outside Clarence House, the home of the King and Queen - which is just a couple of minutes away from Buckingham Palace. It will also be a final opportunity to see the Guards and the ceremonial band, and we are likely to see the Horse Guards as well. From here, it’s a short walk to Green Park or St James’s Park stations, or around 15 minutes on foot to Trafalgar Square or Parliament Square.

Did the tour with Robin 6/22/26 & it was outstanding. Honestly, one of the best things we did during our trip to London. He was incredibly knowledgeable & entertaining. Highly recommend doing a tour with Robin you will not regret it.

Phenomenal guide, well versed, funny and kept the crowd engaged! Would 100% do another tour with Robin!
Robin was amazing, my sister had tried to do Buckingham Palace by herself and missed the whole thing so very glad to have a fun, experience. We went on a Sunday which was very special and the full range of educational, entertaining, serious and perfect length of time.
The Best Tour with Robin. It was Great
Robin is marvelous! It was a great experience! Join him! Five star history teacher! Thumbs up and cheers!
Excellent tour and tour guide! Highly recommend!
Our tour with Robin from Fantastic Walks was excellent. Robin’s humor and storytelling made the experience engaging and enjoyable through out. Rather than entering a specific viewing area at Buckingham Palace, the Changing of the Guard is a moving procession, and the tour focuses on walking between key points while learning the history and context behind what you’re seeing. Robin knew exactly where to stand for the best views and photos and shared many interesting details along the way. We even adjusted our plans based on his recommendations. While you can view the ceremony on your own, this tour adds real value if you appreciate expert guidance, timing, and insight.
I did the Changing of the Guard tour and had a fantastic time. Robin is an excellent guide. He is informative and fun. I learned a great deal about much more than just the changing of the guard. Whether this is your first time in London or you have been here many times, you will enjoy this tour.
