Itinerary
Begin your Cádiz discovery with a view of the city’s former Tobacco Factory, one of its most impressive historic buildings. Once connected to Cádiz’s important commercial and industrial past, the building reflects the city’s long relationship with Atlantic trade and colonial-era prosperity. Its elegant façade and monumental proportions make it a striking introduction to the city’s architectural heritage.
Continue to Puerta de Tierra, the historic gateway that once marked the entrance to Cádiz’s fortified old town. This impressive defensive monument separated the ancient city from the mainland and remains one of Cádiz’s most recognizable landmarks. Its stone walls, towers, and monumental arch reflect the city’s strategic importance as a protected Atlantic port. It is a powerful reminder of Cádiz’s maritime past, military history, and unique position between land and sea.
Admire the impressive Cádiz New Bridge, one of the modern symbols of the city and a striking contrast to Cádiz’s ancient history. Spanning the Bay of Cádiz, this elegant bridge connects the historic city with the mainland and offers beautiful views over the water. Its sweeping design, scale, and contemporary architecture make it one of the most spectacular arrivals into Cádiz.
Your first stop is Playa de la Caleta, one of Cádiz’s most beloved and cinematic seaside locations, where guests step off the coach to enjoy the atmosphere and take photos. Framed by historic fortresses and Atlantic views, this charming beach captures the soul of Cádiz with its golden light, fishing boats, and old-world coastal beauty. Film lovers may recognize La Caleta from the James Bond movie “Die Another Day,” where Cádiz famously stood in for Havana, Cuba. It is a perfect place to feel the city’s maritime character, enjoy the ocean breeze, and capture one of Cádiz’s most iconic views.
Follow your guide to admire the Castillo de Santa Catalina, a historic seaside fortress overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Built to protect Cádiz from naval attacks, it reflects the city’s strategic importance as one of Spain’s great maritime strongholds. Its distinctive star-shaped design and oceanfront setting make it one of the most atmospheric landmarks in the city. Today, it offers a beautiful glimpse into Cádiz’s defensive past while framing spectacular views of the coastline.
Continue with a short stroll through Genovés Park, one of Cádiz’s most elegant and peaceful green spaces. Filled with exotic plants, shaded pathways, fountains, and beautifully landscaped corners, it offers a refreshing contrast to the city’s oceanfront scenery. This gentle walk allows guests to slow down, enjoy the local atmosphere, and discover a quieter side of Cádiz. It is a charming stop for photos, relaxation, and a brief immersion into one of the city’s most beloved gardens.
Your walking tour begins at Plaza de España, one of Cádiz’s most symbolic and elegant squares. Surrounded by historic buildings and shaded areas, it offers a graceful introduction to the city’s old town atmosphere. The square is also home to the impressive Monument to the Constitution of 1812, a powerful tribute to Cádiz’s role in Spanish history.
Continue to Plaza de Mina, one of Cádiz’s most charming and elegant squares. Surrounded by historic façades, leafy trees, and a relaxed local atmosphere, it offers a beautiful glimpse of everyday life in the old town. This square has long been associated with Cádiz’s cultural and social life, making it more than just a pretty stop. It is a peaceful place to appreciate the city’s refined architecture, shaded corners, and authentic Andalusian character.
Continue toward one of Cádiz’s most vibrant and authentic areas, where the famous Mercado de las Flores brings colour, fragrance, and local life to the heart of the old town. Nearby, the traditional fish market reveals Cádiz’s deep connection with the Atlantic, with fresh seafood displays that reflect the city’s maritime soul. These markets are among the most iconic places in Cádiz, full of energy, local voices, daily rituals, and genuine Andalusian atmosphere. This stop is perfect for guests who want to experience the real Cádiz — lively, colourful, delicious, and deeply connected to the sea.
Enter El Pópulo, the oldest district in Cádiz and one of the most atmospheric areas of the historic center. Its narrow streets, stone arches, hidden corners, and medieval layout reveal the city’s ancient soul. This district preserves traces of Cádiz’s Roman, medieval, and maritime past within just a few charming streets. Walking through El Pópulo feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by layers of history at every turn.
Admire the magnificent Cádiz Cathedral, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and a true symbol of its historic wealth. Its golden dome rises above the old town and can be seen from many points along the seafront, creating one of Cádiz’s most memorable images. Built over more than a century, the Cathedral blends Baroque and Neoclassical styles, reflecting the changing tastes and prosperity of the city. This stop offers a beautiful moment to appreciate Cádiz’s architecture, history, and powerful connection between the old town and the Atlantic.
Discover the Roman Theatre of Cádiz, one of the most fascinating archaeological treasures in the city. Hidden for centuries beneath the old town, this remarkable site reveals the ancient Roman origins of Cádiz. Its remains offer a powerful glimpse into the city’s importance during classical times, when Cádiz was one of the great ports of the Roman world.
Finish this part of the walking tour at Plaza San Juan de Dios, one of Cádiz’s most elegant and lively squares. Facing the Town Hall and opening toward the port, the square has long been a welcoming gateway between the city and the sea. Our Guide Anita was so helpful and kind pointing out items of interest on our tour. The Sherry tasting at the end is just what we needed. The cheese was really good (although a little sparse- only 2 slices per person) and 2 glasses of sherry one white and one red. No seconds. I give this tour a 5 star because I truly loved our guide. She really cared about us and you could tell she was confident in her job.
We had a very fun day with Anita and Luis during our ride around / walking tour of Cadiz. We visited the beach made famous in "Die Another Day" (think Halle Berry coming out of the water!). We stopped to visit the 1812 monument and did a walking tour of the town, all the while listening to Luis' very humorous stories! ("I'm just kidding - not!"). We visited a rooftop restaurant for some tasting of local cheese, sweet and nonsweet sherries (found the secret is to add some of the sweet to the regular - great!), and then continued walking through the town to reach the main square. Luis helped us find a store with great buys (check out the hand painted fans). After the tour was over, Luis walked us back to the Cadiz Cathedral. We toured that on our own, and it's worth the admission. Incredible marble church, very baroque, and lovely side chapels. We also saw the exhibit "The Mystery Man" which is based on the Shroud of Turin. There is actually a full-size man (wax?) who bears all the scars and injuries as documented from the measurements on the shroud, and even has the hair to match. It does leave you with the feeling that the shroud, indeed, was of Jesus, but who knows for sure? Overall, we enjoyed Cadiz very much and would highly recommend the tour!
Guides met us right at the main gate with a sign saying “Shore” and “Excursion” in smaller letters. The first part of the trip was on a comfortable bus with two accesses making it easy to get on and off. We got to see the beach and walk on a fort near the water that was mission style with a bathroom. Lots of history about Cadiz was shared by our amazing guides Anita and Luis. We broke into smaller groups for the walking portion through the old city. Anita was easy to listen to and was very knowledgeable about Cadiz. Finished the tour with sherry and cheese on a rooftop terrace. I highly recommend this tour! Excellent!
Cadiz Shore Excursions: is a tour lasting 4 hours telling the history of the founding of Cadiz and showing the historical monuments of the city. Part is by bus and the last part by a stroll through the main squares of the city.
No show. Waited at pickup point shown on their own map for 45 minutes (in the rain) and pickup never came. Tried to get ahold of someone through the app but no one responded/answered
A large group split into 3 groups. Our guide did not have a microphone. We could not hear anything due to the crowds. Not worth the money. Heard about 10%.
Anita was an exceptional tour guide. She was knowledgeable, pleasant and kind. We saw and learned so much. I would definitely recommend her.
Very well organised and well worth the price. Easy walking, knowledgeable guides and very friendly !! Anita and Louis provided insights into tge history and buildings. The shirt bus trip gives a great overview before the walking part. Walking between the various squares and markets was well paced, with plenty of breaks. The final stop for the sherry and cheese tasting tops off the day. A short walk from there back to the ship.
This is a must do initial introduction to Cadiz. What makes this your worthwhile is not just it's coverage of the city ( which is great to say the least), but the guide. Anita is a treasure who knows her stuff and how to deliver the tales in an engaging, humorous way that keeps her guests waiting to peek around the next corner.
First tour was cancelled, then booked another. Stood at meeting point for 40 minutes with others and it was a no show. Could not contact guide via message or phone
