Description

Buzludzha is a historical peak in the Central Balkan Mountains, Bulgaria and is 1,432 metres high. In 1868 it was the place of the final battle between Bulgarian rebels led by Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadzha and forces of the Ottoman Empire. The House-Monument of the Bulgarian Communist Party (also known as the Buzludzha Monument) was built on the peak by the Bulgarian communist regime. It commemorated the events of 1891, when a group of socialists led by Dimitar Blagoev assembled secretly in the area to form an organised socialist movement that led to the founding of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party, a forerunner of the Bulgarian Communist Party. Construction of the monument began on 23 January 1974 under architect Georgi Stoilov, a former mayor of Sofia and co-founder of the Union of Architects in Bulgaria. The building exemplifies the brutalist architectural style common to many state-constructed communist buildings.

The only building that had this unique architecture

I visited this place and I am in ore with the architecture. Really pleased that it will be finally restored as it has been left to decay for so long. It is secured nowadays but inside is truly phenomenal with the wall mosaics and the acoustics. A true national treasure. This is the only communist monument of this kind. Beautiful surroundings too. I cannot wait to see It restored.

Buzludzha and Plovdiv

I'd recommend this company. Smarttrans were very organised and helpful including text updates as to when our driver would arrive. We very much enjoyed our trip - Dennis was great. Shame about the low clouds at Buzludzha but still very atmospheric.

Great experience!

Highly recommended. It seems to be a new tour with this company and they are certainly tries to accomodate specific needs. We were a big family with a small child and many wills, and almost every will was satisfied. We were also accomodated as last-minute booking in high season which was great! Both Buzludzha and Plovdiv are highly recommended as attractions of Bulgarias rich history! Very satisfied. Some things could always be improved, like complimentary water in the car.
